I know I have been working on her for about 2 years now and only took it out when it had a rod knock in the motor and the radiator was clogged up and had the 20 year old tires on. I 1st took her down and put $20 of gas in her then took it on a about a 15 minute ride. She wandered a little bit but I know she still need stabilizer bushings {nothing left of the rubber bushings}She cruzied pretty good down the two lane highway{still have to replace the speedometer cable so I can see how fast I am going} and rode pretty good considing she need shocks .Boy people were breaking their necks when I would go by them. Still waiting on the title work. Maybe I will just hang on to her .I sure will be able to put a lot of food in the back when I go food shopping. OH I did have one thing happen .I heard a big bang coming back home and thought what the hell fell off? I looked in the rear view mirror to see one of the hubcaps go flying off the cliffs edge I was driving along. Good thing I have a spare cause I aint going down that cliff with my bad ankle looking for it.lol. You all have a good one. Bruce.
All older Buicks are classy, Buick wagons are EXTRA classy! (WARNING - boring old fart war story alert - WARNING) Back when pretty much EVERYTHING had hubcaps, some goofy crap could happen. Driving the family '59 New Yorker one night, nailed a big-assed pothole and and saw the RF 'cap do a couple bounces and hop a low hedge into a yard. Stopped, hopped the hedge myself and felt around in the azalea bushes till I found it. Tossed it on the back floorboard to reinstall the next day. Only problem, come to find out it wasn't my cap. Went back in the daytime and there was about a half dozen various hubcaps in the same area of the yard, all claimed by the same pothole! (ALL CLEAR - boring old fart back on his meds - ALL CLEAR)
have patience and AAA . once the bugs are worked out it will be way cool. in the beginning i came home a few times on a hook but once the problems were licked it is a blast and i would drive it anywhere
I know the feeling of cant wait to drive the project. I recently got a 50 caddy and drove it up and down the block in the neighborhood, when I had about 10 percent brake function. Now that the brakes are fixed, it will occasionally die on me. Had to walk a few times, and Im nervous every time I take it out, but that hasn't stopped me yet! Sweet looking wagon!
Where's the cliff?! Good to hear you're up and running Bruce. I'm close to taking my avatar on a test spin, too.
You should be proud. You have fought the good fight with that beast, and got her to come around. Congratulations. And Fred, that Buick can cover a lot of ugly, but we've never seen a picture of you.
Heres what it looked like when I first got it home .You all know the story. Guy said it ran and dove and stopped. When I got it the motor had a knock in the dynflow just gushed fluid all over the place and when I tried to take it down the hill to my shop it had a brake pedal but wouldn't stop, took out my back wall in the shop but didn't hurt the car. lol. and he jumped the title. That baby has cost me a lot in crown royal too lol. Thanks for all you interest. Bruce.
Looking good Bruce. I'm a big fan of big wagons keep plugging away you'll have it up and running and reliable before ya know it!
sounds like a whole lotta fun man, those kinks will be gone in an afternoons' work and that'll be one classy cruiser when shes worked out.
what a good looking wagon. take your Fellow Pages and a cell phone with you when you go out and drive the wheels off that baby!
