Hey everyone. I have a '51 ford shoebox with the original flathead 6. Want to rebuild the engine sometime this year (its currently my daily driver) but not 100% sure what bolts on the motor I can safely use to lift the motor out. I know exhaust bolts on the left (passenger side) but not completely sure for the
right side. I would be extremely grateful for any advice. Thx guys!

Remove and use the head bolts for a point of lift. They are strong enough to hold the load. Hope this helps Hud

    ^ agreed. That's what I did when I worked on my 226.

The real well equipped garages used to have a couple of old spark plugs with big steel rings welded to them. Screw one in the front, one in the back hook on a chain and up we go.

I never got that fancy. Just used apiece of chain, a head bolt at the front corner, and another head bolt at the diagonal opposite back corner. Or, whichever head bolts were handiest.
