I have put a Volvo 2 litre into my 52 MG TD to replace the original 1.2 litre.
I cannot close the hood side panel because of the dual side draft carbs.
I have access to a manifold that will fit and accept 2 down draft single barrel carbs.
Used to be lots of single barrels around like Holley, Stromberg etc but I am not finding a lot for sale now.
Can I get some advice and possible direction to sources. I would prefer holley but am not stuck on brand.

How much clearance do you need to run the side drafts?

AS KJSR asked above, how much room do you need?
I'd think about forming a crafty little sheet metal bubble for the hood. There was a thread here on the HAMB about making one to cover some side steering linkage.
I think the downdraft carb route would be a can of worms!o_O
BTW ... good engine choice. Back in the days there was an MGA locally sporting a Volvo engine. As much as I love & respect our English brothers, engineering-wise the Swedes have their **** in a much neater stack!
