Can I use head gaskets around .20" larger in bore size than the cylinder bore? The engine's a Rover 3.5l V8 with a 3.50" bore, but I have some 3.70" bore (3.9l) gaskets on the shelf and want to know if they'll work.

Compare to these Fel-Pro ones which are 4.100" bore and are said to work on a 305 SBC with 3.736" bore......

  2. did you measure the actual gasket?

No, I am quoting the spec information the gaskets came with.

    Wrong head gasket?
The Buick based 3.5L Rover had a 3.50" bore, the later Rover 3.9/4.0L had a 3.70" bore

You should be OK as the block is about the same.

Lay the gasket on the block and check for any overlaps into the coolant side. Same with the head. The fire ring should be no problem. Just a large dead air space between the head and block that will eventually fill with carbon.

    Rather not.
Get the right piece, or have some made.

  7. at .200 you should get the proper gasket less contaminated burn
