Lol...well Jeff there are times when it's just about the money. 20G's for a y-block, and you have to pull it from his car? I know it's got a Paxton, but I live in a different world.
Kinda makes some us love that 302 just a little bit more, right? But it does look pretty. You Y-block guys should check this out a 1959 Speed Parts Catalog: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=6315 What really ****s is these same manifolds today cost almost 10 times more and there has been zero changes in design over the years since 1959 yet you can buy a new SBF or SBC intake for less than $150 also on another page you can see cams and lifter prices. Most of the Y-block grinds are still these old patterns today a Y-block cam will cost around $250 and up and the lifters $165-$360 depending on brand.SBF and SBC cam and lifter Combos can be had at Jeg's or Summit for $99.I cannot justify the expense of Y-block parts when there has been zero product development from anyone with the exception of Mummert, pretty sad.
Woah, I thought that was for the whole t-bird, which I thought was pretty fair. Paxton stuff is really not that expensive, and Ted Eaton seems to be churning out stroker Y-blocks for a lot less than that. Thats why it's for sale and not sold I guess
Jeff, while I agree this blown 312 is stupid money I have also seen 5.0 transplants get out of financial hand. I have a buddy who did the 5.0 efi/aod swap in a 65 Mustang and wound up having to buy 2 motors and 2 transmissions as well as having the computer reflashed. I dare say he has more money in just the swap than I have in my entire 55 with a .060 over 312, 2 fours, rebuilt Cruise-O and 9 inch rear. It boils down to what you want and what your wallet can bear. We both have big grins on our faces while driving our rides as I'm sure you do when behind the wheel. Y-blocks are quirky for certain, but they sure do sound like nothing else!
