'56 Ford barn find - am I crazy?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hill_County-rodshop, Sep 2, 2014.

  1. Easily worth it for parts. Grille, bumpers, windshield, rear window, frame, rear axle, suspension, headlights, fenders, seats, gauges, dash, floor sections, trim, miscellaneous hardware, some trim, hood, taillights, etc. It adds up. But if you really want a 2-door, this is also in the same price range. http://cl***iccars.com/listings/vie...e-for-sale-in-parkers-prairie-minnesota-56361
Coat of paint and it's like new.

My wife (who likes 2-door hardtops in anything) told me I needed my head examined. Lol

It's only money. And, time. Find a big river with a bridge that you can walk across. Take the money you're going to spend on this rusting hulk and throw it in, several bills at the time so you can savor the pain and loss. When that's over, you will still have your time. Time you can spend looking for what you really want. Always keep in mind that a mule looks like a horse, and you can ride it if you have the balls to get on its back; but, it's not a thoroughbred and never will be, no matter how fast it runs after it bucks you.

  4. Boy, the armchair rodders on this board never cease to amaze me.

$300? In 2014? Pull your head out of 1990's ***.

There certainly is $750 in parts there, easily, plus at least a ton of s**** after the fact if you went that way.

From the driver's seat, they're all the same regardless of body style, except perhaps for convertible. Except for how much you paid for it.

It's an old 4-door, so bondo it up and go have fun with it and if someone hits it or it gets scratched, so what? If you think that's a rotty car, you haven't seen what people up north have to deal with.

Clean it up, get it running, and if you don't like it, sell it. You'll do okay on it. These came with a V8 stock, how hard could it be to put one in it? One $500 auction Crown Vic cop car and a few weekends of labor and go.

Every state is different when it comes to ***les, so if you don't also live in Texas, what you think is irrelevant. Case in point, in my state, no paperwork doesn't mean a damn thing, we don't use ***les and a registration is so stupidly simple it's not funny. I go next door to New Jersey with the same car, they think I'm a criminal because I lost a piece of paper the size of a credit card 30 years ago.

I just sold the black and white one in this pic. Having just done one, I would suggest getting the car even just for parts. I spent a lot of time tracking down the little things. The front crossmember isn't too hard to do and they are available. Try to gather up the front parking lights too. Nothing cheap about them!

That's one good looking car. 56's are very cl***y no doubt. Never really liked the big round park lights on 55's. Regardless what I do with it I do believe I'm going back to talk with the guy to strike a deal. It'll be in better hands even it just sets up for right now. The owner's talking about selling it for s****. I just can't let that happen. Some will go to the end of the earth to save some @$&!homeless dog, or help feed starving children halfway across the planet. My weakness is old cars.

  11. My aunt Earline had a '56 Victoria 4 door hardtop, beautiful car, buckskin and white 2 tone. Would rather have a Victoria hardtop than a Crown Victoria. I have a '55 Fairlane 4 door that my parents bought new, work in progress.

Same for me on the hardtop. I never got into the roofline of the crown, but then again that's what makes the world spin as it does. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1409801588.927598.jpg

Can't get enough of 'em. Shoulda made this a picture thread. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1409801677.010775.jpg

If you buy it let me know. I plan on having a spare 2 door post roof available when I start my next project in a few months. Then all you'll need is a windshiels and a couple of doors.
