I have a 53 ford victoria with a Fordomatic Transmission. It is leaking fluid where it bolts to the bellhousing. Any suggestions on the cause? Is it the transmission or the torque converter? Is the torque converter a closed unit or does it have a seal? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Most likely its the input shaft seal.
Either way plan on dropping the trans out.

I believe that one is the air cooled job. The converter is a two piece unit and has a row of bolts around it near the outer edge. Theres a O ring style gasket used for a seal and they need to be replaced after yrs of heat. Also a small O ring on the pump hub that is also removable. After draining the converter (small 1/8 plugs) remove the tranny and its an easy repair. The tranny can be unbolted from the bell housing for easy removal, then the bell housing, then the converter. NAPA should be able to get the parts. Be sure to replace the front pump seal with the rest of them.
