I'm hoping to drive parts of the Illinois section of old Route 66 later this month. My notes had bill Shea's Gas Station museum in Springfield on the list, but I see that he died in December. Anyone know if the museum reopened? Any other must see sites along the route/ Thanks.
I do not know the answer regarding the gas station museum in Springfield, but may be able to find out and post here. As for other related sites, there is a small '50s/Route 66 museum in Litchfield, IL, about 40 miles south of Springfield, that is worth your time since you will be p***ing through there. A few miles south of there is Country Cl***ic Cars......a dealer with a large lot and several large buildings, both full of '40s/'50s/'60s cars for sale. Ray
You didn't state where you're starting on 66 in Illinois but if it's near Joliet Il. there are plenty of cool stops to make from there south to Springfield. Joliet and Pontiac both have museums. Atlanta another good stop. Check out Rt.66 ***ociation of Illinois web site, helpful. Enjoy! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App
