Real Rodders Wheels Mag-Look EZ Care Finish

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RoadFarmer, Feb 11, 2011.

  1. Anyone have a set of wheels from Real Rodders Wheels with the EZ Care mag-look finish? I saw them on their website....they are beautiful. I was hoping I could send my Aluminum Halibrands in to get coated, but he said it only works with the alloy of their wheels....so thats a no go. The only other thing that ****s is that they want and additional $300 per wheel to coat them with this process. Just curious if anyone has them or knows someone with them. How do you/they like them? How much maintenance?

Be careful, if it's anything like aluminum powdercoat. That stuff will stain if you get anything on it, and won't polish of clean up.

EDIT: I just checked them out, they are beautiful (and pricey). Must be like Edelbrock's Endurashine.

I've wondered what the coating is. Almost looks like the wheel is polished and then electrolys nickel plated.

They sure look cool. I love Real Rodders Wheels. I just have a hard time justifying the extra 300 bucks a pop. (I still may spring for them someday - ouch)

Im stumped, Ive searched all over the freaking place, I think I will not be able to copy their coating process, I would step up and buy their rear wheels but I really like my 18 in Radirs on the front and they will not coat them.....nor do they make something like it

  6. Although I cant comment on this particular finish I can tell you that the two sets of wheels I have from them are fantastic. The finish is everything they say it will be and the service is very personalized.....not commercialized! Scrounge up the extra money and I don't think you will be disappointed.

I agree they are a good company, I can afford their stuff, they just don't offer a similar wheel to the 18x3 12 spoke spindle mount

Back to the original post, has anyone got a set of RRWs with the Ezi-Care mag style coating?

It looks brilliant. Durability is a question: in particular long term exposure to the sun and UV light, etc.

Any experience here would be appreciated.

Ok great. Have they been fitted to the car yet? Many miles / use on them?

I mounted them in July and did a 1200 mile round trip including a day of rain. I cleaned them with gl*** cleaner. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1449548223.278513.jpg

Thanks 32. That side profile is impressive! Any pics of your 1200me trip?

With the Ezi-Care, I'm interested to know about long term UV exposure and also exposure to grease, brakes fluid, etc... As traces of this stuff is bound to get on the wheels sooner or later.

I'm intending to fit 'sprint' style wheels to my coupe.... They are similar to your wheels, but with bigger windows.... Likely to be polished finish as I don't know enough about the Ezi-care coating to commit to it.

I do love the colour and finish on your wheels. Magnificent.

The ez care is a plating. Much like chrome with the goldish tint. I know they are quite a bit more per wheel. But I don't like polishing aluminum. Lol

  17. If it's plating, that brings to mind what a crusty old plater told me about 40 years ago..... 'Kid, plated aluminum is like a teenage *****; looks great when it's new, but doesn't age well.' Sooner or later, it will lift or peel....

I think you should stop being so wishy -washy :D and go ahead and get it. It looks really nice on the coupe in the picture. :)

I gotta agree with Blue One. But even if you go with the polished version you will not be disappointed. I compared the RR wheels to the et's and I gotta say I believe the finish is much nicer on the RR wheels. I would like to see RR offer the big windows.

As nice as they look in the picture, I've decided to stick with polished. :)

I got some with just the polished finish. Very nice quality wheels and they've got a lot of miles on them and they still look great!

I was able to see Ol 55's '40 at the nationals and it has to be the coolest '40 I've seen! This coming from a guy who's own mother has had a '40 standard coupe for over 25 years. Lol

I don't know who you are refering to, but the wheels on my 40 are 15x8 trick wheels. 32fenderless looks to be running 16 inch wheels, just my guess though. :)

Thanks. Never let it be said that I'm shy about posting pictures of my 40!
I've had it a little over 37 years with lots of wheel/ tire changes over the years and this is the latest.

    OL 55, now that's how a 40 should look. [emoji106][emoji41]

32, they're going on my fathers old 35 5 window. Undergoing a full rebuild. It was his daily driver back in the early 1980s, with 1960s SBC/Muncie/9-inch [emoji14][emoji14][emoji14]
