I made up a new firewall for my 34 and I thought it turned out pretty good.Tonight we dropped the hood top on and now the sides of the firewall look ****.Thinking about taking the whole thing out and starting over and cutting the side bits back further.I only want to run the hood top no sides. What has anyone else done in this area?
Just where is Kernow?,,,I'm g***ed up,the trailer is hooked up and I'm ready to come get my FREE 34! HRP
I agree with the previous 3 posters, the firewall sides are one of the coolest looking parts of the car. I looked at a couple of cut ones while looking for a car and p***ed , they didn't look right.
I belong to the choir, so I will join the chorus, keep the sides of the cowl intact, otherwise it will look like one of those plastic fantastic bodys.
I thought this was to good to be true. Just remember this is your ride so build it the way you want as long as it looks good to every one else........................
Just returned home to the U.S. From England. Wish I knew about this cause I would have tied it to my plane and brought it home! Dang it !!!
Hope you got plenty of money for gas. I,m right down in the bottom S.W corner of England. You might be better off finding one closer to home and spending your money on the car instead of gas.
i hate to be just one more voice in the choir but it looks very cool the way it is. the sides are what makes that car stand out
I go against the choir. I've heard this choir sing before and for the life of me I can't see what they see. The words are the same " they are supposed to be there, looks off with them cut back, only on a race car ,,,, The reason the huge flanks of a cowl side are there is to extend the cabin room, but once there is a firewall recess those cowl sides are useless. Little appendages, knife edges that get in the way. To the choir's eye the look better but to my eyes it really ****s Up the flow without hood sides. Its the only hard 90* vertical edge on one of the swoopiest cars ever built. Everyone is ok with a chop top but don't chop the useless cowl sides. Gl*** and visibility must be more useless I guess. It doesn't look good if they are cut all the way back to the bead for the hood side- this is true but its stupid to keep the knife edge. Lots of guys have swapped in a 35-37 truck firewall and those look soooo much better. They aren't anywhere near as big in that angled step at the top. The 33/34 cars have about 9" of nonsense and the trucks have about 4" Now I can tell you why 33/34 cowl sides are kept on a lot of them,,, because its 20 times easier to leave them. It's a whole bunch of figuring and head scratching to do it right. Most don't get it right and it looks like **** because its just too hard for them to get it. That "<" shaped hole between the line of the hood and slope of the firewall looks terrible to me and disrupts the grace of those cars. Just stand back about 50 feet and have some help tape a line on the cowl side that shares the angle of the grill and hoodside bead that looks good to your eye. I can tell you have a good eye because that's one bad *** car you're building there. That's my opinion on it.
That "<" shaped hole between the line of the hood and slope of the firewall looks terrible to me and disrupts the grace of those cars. Thanks 331 that,s exactly what we thought last night, there are some marker pen lines on the cowl side that you can,t see in the picture that follow the hood side bead.I,ll play around with some ideas and give this some more thought.
I had a thread on this very subject. 33/34 car with Chrysler hemi, let me see if I can find it for you
Here it is- seems you were talked about there and posted in it too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...rysler-hemi-i-wanna-see-your-firewall.843281/
