Took Lucy over to Peelerboy, a friend of mine who does design work in the auto industry. Had hom work up a couple of photochops of the car so's to get a feel for which way to go on the color scheme. Please let me know whatcha think; orig is included for reference. Thanks!
OK, you wanted an opinion. So, that's all this is. I'm "OVER" the black suede thing. It's cool, so don't get me wrong. But it's an easy way out that TOO many have taken. Again, in my opinion, it's been overdone, worn out, turn the page, move on, let's show a LITTLE imagination. The first 2 pics look great. How about something in Lime Gold maybe?
I appreciate the opinion - honest. It IS easy; hell, the substrate can be a mixture of dirt and rust and it'll still turn out okay! I asked Peeler to 'imagine' the car - that's what he came up with. The green/green is actually the original color schem for the car; the difference is the dagmars, turnsigs and emblem have been removed to 'smooth' the front end. I do like shiny, but satin black is sooo easy to shoot! That's what the pix are for - debate. You're not gonna hurt my feelings. I'm too old for that.
From what i understand (and witnessed), satin ANYTHING is easy and forgiving. Why not spend a little more on the materials for a LOT more interesting result? I've seen some very good looking metallic base coated cars with marginal body work
This blue/white would look good on it. Especially with tall whitewalls. Consider some Chrysler wires for that bad boy too. Would look much classier than the hub caps IMO. Oh yeah, I've seen you on the ForwardLook site - I'm 57burb there.
I like the green on green, or something similar to that. Like the gold idea too. I wouldn't do flat black if it was mine. Oh...and I dont like the blacked out door handles either. Shave them or leave them chrome. Just my opinion.
Dude! I'm stuck with a tricolor green/turquoise/teal interior; the blue wouldn't get it as much as I'd like to go thataway. I zapped Pops the pix (it's kinda freaky emailing/IM'ing someone in their 70's) and he went with the black ratrod/red/orange flame look. Go figure. the blacked handles were a concession to photochop - speed 'shop job!
Groucho - Niice! I found one of them inna garage about a mile from the Ford Rouge complex; it was a gasser from back in the day - brown metallic and a 327/375 setup with a 4 speed trans. Yeah - kinda an oddball. Been sittin' so long the garage had sunk 4" relative to the alley. Came with a spare engine/trans, too! Convinced the owner they needed to let it go; showed up the next day and they'd changed their mind. Six months later - same story. I miss getting that car <snif>
Mint green with either white scallops or gold pinstripes... either way.. i like the subtlety of the color which seems to match the 'mood' of the car, with its smooth body lines and all...
I hadn't considered white scallops - thanks! That really would look cool! Wonder what it would look like with white scallops and a white top. I really dig white tops - they seem to balance the car out.
i like the second one with the two tone green. some dark green scallops would be cool (trim 'em in either gold or black to make them stand out) oh, length wise (front to back) 2" cream stripes on the roof instead of scallops would look bitchin. (black is the new black...)
Gloss black was my first reaction. I love the look of a fresh black car... Prob is: a) substrate MUST be arrow straight; GB shows every damned imperfection, and the need for quarter panel work (and prolly some rocker work) means either do a million hours of prep work or suffer with the ripplies. b) Black looks good for about twenty minutes after cleaning; requires nearly constant maintenance to look 'clean'. While the cool factor is diminished slightly, lite green does not suffer these issues.
If the dash and window frames are in good shape, and green, I'd say you have to go green. I could see it a dark metalic green, dropped on a frenched rake with white walls and Lancer hubcaps. I little pinstriping and a tuck and roll package tray, and you'd have it nice. I agree with the folks who caution you against flat/satin finish. It's way over done these days and really doesn't suit a car with so much bright work. A set of 36" glasspacks through pea shooters would sound righteous with that Hemi. Of course, my tastes lean toward the So Cal look circa 1958/60. chili
I like the 2nd photochop (dark green top, with a mint green body with white ealls). Shave the door handles, french the antena
Thanks! I'm aimin for 58-60, so you're right on the mark. The interior is very nice, with only some light wear on the driver's window frame and some fading of the cloth. I'm gonna try to dye it back to something fresh; will attempt that shortly - if not, then I'll go the tuck/roll route. I *really* liked the lancers for the car, but the girls (I live with three wimmen - two of 'em I had a hand in creatin') liked the Olds flippers, so that's what went on the car. The flippers tie in with the V's on the quarters and with the door handles, so it's pretty much 'right'. When I get the DDL rubbed out - yeah. it will go to a striper for the works. The stripe job will prolly be the only thing that I don't do myself. As for the exhaust... It had a set of 36' chromie 'packs and megs when I picked it up...sounded frickin' NASTY! I love the sound of 'packs - damned near every car I've ever owned gets 'packs within a week or two of ownership. In the case of Lucy the Chrysler, the 'packs were too raspy. To 'cut' the sound, a set of three-chamber Thrush Turbos were mounted 2' ahead of the 'packs. The car now has a nice mellow rumble at idle - you know it ain't stock - and it now sounds decent at part-throttle instead of a hoop-de tailpipe-draggin' machine. Big Chrylsers should 'ooze' down the street, IMHO.
