    Hi guys and gals!

Could you please comment (with pics!) what size bias-ply tires would look great on a LOW 1939 Ford? Looking for a Kustom, not Hot Rod look and also thinking of using the same size on front and rear tires.

    Cheers,
    Jesse

I narrowed it down myself using what little I could find with Google.

Rear wheel sizes 8.20-15 and 7.00-16 look all too big and 5.50-15 look too small as front tires. Not quite sure about 6.00-16 as fronts, they seem ok.

Radial tires such as Coker 235/75-15 and 225/75-16 look pretty good, but they're radials.

The 6.70-15 seems to be the best choice so far, but I would still like to see more pics to confirm this.

    Cheers,
    Jesse

The old standard still works with Custom's,they beg for the 6.70's. HRP

For what its worth, I currently have 6.40 x 15 firestones on the front of my 40 with a posie 'in da dirt' kit, and the tyres rub on the fender lips big time, to the extent that I'm gonna have to lift it an inch to drive it!!

This is where so many guys go wrong, IMHO. Be it a hot rod or a custom, a car's stance is the most important aspect of it's "look" - again IMHO. To compromise a near-perfect stance such as your car has just to keep the tires from rubbing "big time" as you put it would be a big mistake - once again IMHO.

If it were mine I'd investigate some wheels with less outward offset, some tires with a shorter height and maybe even a narrowed axle. '40s have been in the dirt and still driveable for many decades. It's also a fact that you may have to get used to your lowered custom driving a bit different than your wife's new Honda. It'll rub once in a while. You just have to get used to it.

Please. Your car looks great at its new height. Don't raise it.
