    1954 Cad 331 Engine Rebuild and Hot-Up

Three things have led me to fit adjustable pushrods - the block has been decked, the heads have been skimmed and a higher lift camshaft fitted (which probably has a "lower" cam heel than stock).
In order to have the hydraulic lifters working in the correct part their range how should the lengths of the pushrods be adjusted?
Your advice would be gratefully received.

With the lifter on the base circle, heel, take all slack/lash out of the adjustment. Then open/extend the pushrod one full turn for 0.032" of preload. On EarlyHemi engines I try for 050 to 060 preload or about 1- 2/3 to 1¾ turns.
If you put a drop of paint on the side of the nut and on the fixed/welded nut it is easier to count the turns.

    Thank you - that's just what's wanted.

Another way to go is using 50's Studebaker adjustable rockers, the Cad and Stud engines are very similar and all you need is the rocker arm's, they will fit on the Cads rocker shaft just like stock, & I think the rocker ratio was 8.1
You can look it up in the HAMB History
