Technical Four Banger dyno shootout

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by hotrodfil, Sep 16, 2014.

  1. Few pictures from the other day. An evening with a few four bangers on a rolling road taster session along with a token flathead. I posted this in the monthly Banger thread but thought I'd share it to the wider world.
All bar the '32 were running four bangers.
    Take these cars…

We stood around, drank tea, and ate biscuits whilst we swapped each car on in turn for three taster runs on the rolling road with a little tinkering in between.

    Juggs/Rory's T, 4 banger

    Run 2) 51.3 - 43.7
    Run 3) 57.3 - 48.8

    Phil's A, 4 banger
    Run 1) 70.6 - 60.0
    Run 2) 77.8 - 66.3
    Run 3) 70.2 - 59.8

Mark's Avon Special, Ford 4 Banger Riley
    Run 1) 59.4 - 50.6

    Ratty's A, 4 banger
    Run 1) 46.5 - 39.6
    Run 2) 49.1 - 42.4
    Run 3) 50.3 - 42.8

Cool deal ! Thanks for posting that. Don't see a lot of bangers on the dyno, I'm about to get my roadster back on the road, had the dreaded click, click, of a cracked fan. Fortunately nothing broke, but I'm sitting during a beautiful stretch of weather ...

That's really cool, thanks for posting that, the videos were awesome.

  5. Not sure on the engine specs for some of the others but mine, the Tourer, has a ported A block at 60 thou over, B crank on shells, 1.7" inlets, Winfield crowfoot head, single 97 on a downdraft (the one Snyders sell - was it a Dan Price design?) and a 'touring cam'. Oh, tubular four branch and an Aries silencer. This is Artiki's old engine.

The Avon Special has an A block, B cam, with a Riley 2-port and a large updraft Zenith. It was running quite rich at the top end so there's some improvements to be had.

Jugg's brought along Gary's old T which has twin 97's and a Winfield head, open header, but I'm not sure of the contents…

Ratty's A Coupe runs a Weber but we know nothing more about the inside - it's just as purchased.

For comparison, the '32 was running an 8BA flattie - ported block, not sure on the cam, and two 97's headers and straight thru exhausts. I'll find out what heads and inlets were on it.

    Good write up Phil

Rory/Gary's T on AZ plates as I registered it there when it first came down from Oregon, and ran it about for a few weeks pending it getting shipped to the UK. Now notice that it's been in Blighty more or less a year to the day so time to get it registered here....

    Some more vids from me

That's some cool stuff. My little teacup poodle was howling with dyno pulls.
