Ever come across a crazy cool COE article or video online?
Ever think to share it with the few dozen other people in the HAMB world who share your odd affinity for these big, old, ugly, utilitarian draught-horses?

I didn't spot an established place here and had an article that I just had to share with you all. My buddy Roger forwarded this one to me:

I have a feeling this thread is going to be big...

  2. I remember the DeYoung auction last year, I'm only about a hundred miles from Friesland WI. I deliberately stayed away from that auction, with all the Diamond Ts they had figured I could get in a lot of trouble quickly. LOL

Oh my hell that's fugly! Good read, but FUUUUG-LEEE!

  4. Daddio, fugly is as fugly does! LOL I wonder what it sounded like with a V8 and an I6 running out of sync with the torque converter between them? I bet you knew you had a monster under your foot! LOL
My dad told of a rig back in those days that had a Ford V8 hooked to a drive axle under the trailer. (one of the trailer tandems) He said it had an overrunning clutch, a stop start switch, and an all or nothing throttle. The driver only started it when coming to a hill, then when needing power, open the throttle wide open. When power wasn't needed he would throttle it back to idle and/or shut the engine off.

I'd drive it. Different for sure, but I appreciate when somebody uses their imagination and parts they have laying around....

I've been following Don's build as well. His fab guy is doin him well.
wish I had a little more of that kind of dough. I'd get in the shop a lot more!

As for the Pinocchio truck, I wonder if when it says in the article that they nearly crashed it after they got it running, means that they stomped the brake and with the cantilevered 6'er out front, induced an accidental front wheel stand? Or if it was just like the middle school teacher we made fun of for her noteworthy nose - smudged the chalk board when she turned to write...
I've paid for less engaging entertainment...

  9. I suspect that they found that directional control goes away with the rear wheels off the ground. Caster wheel under the chin? The project must have been somewhat successful as it wasn't immediately cut up for junk.

  11. Clicking on that site gave me the best laugh I've had in a long time. They sure went through a hole lot of trials to get that ***** nose to work:
It remind's me of my last truck I drove. I drove for a Brother & Sister owned saw mill. Sister ran the office & brother ran the mill workers. I ran the truck. After 12 years, they let me spec out my new truck. (they only had one truck, that was me) So I went down to Freightliner & sat down with the sales rep, trying to keeping the cost down I specked out a short hood with small sleeper, 500 Cat, a 13 speed road-ranger with 370 rear-gears. Now trying to keep the cost down more, I picked out a cheep plain green paint color. A week later my boss said that "she" called Freightliner & changed the color. Said she really likes that Lavender metallic paint. I said Lavender, what the heck does lavender look like? My other boss "her brother" said Pink. I said PINK? Than I thought for about one minuet & said Give me the phone, I got to call Freightliner, he say why? I said because I got to change a few things on the truck. I need a 550 cat, a 18 speed road-ranger & two speed rear-end... If any one on the HWY wants to laugh at me in my pink truck, first they got to ketch me....
Turned out Lavender was a very cool color. Especially after I got it to my painter/pinstripe,r for the company Logo on the doors. I had him pinstripe flames starting from right behind the grill going down the side of the cab, than up the side of the sleeper. Very cool LOL ( I didn't get my 550 cat, but I did get the 18 speed trans & two speed rear-end ) OK, now you know why I like my COE. 28 years over the road I mostly drove COE trucks... Dang Dumb TruckDriver
I bet Ponicchio sure got a-lot of laughs
