The carb on my new to me 56 Catalina was rebuilt by Bubba and not correctly. Car is sitting at my mechanic who cannot find the carb no. in his Rochester book, and is having difficulty locating the proper carb kit. He says that it appears to be a replacement installed somewhere along the line, rather than the original. Hopefully, he will find a carb kit that fits today. My question is, I know the car came with a Rochester 2GC carb. Are there other makes and year model vehicles that would use a similar carb that I could find at my local auto parts store? I know that 2GC carbs were used well up into the sixties and seventies but are they useable on my 56 316 Pontiac? BTW, I'm not a carburetor guru by any means, in case it was not apparent. LOL.
My 56 Chieftain wagon still had the original 316 in it and a very original looking 2GC on it. On a separate note I have a 4bbl intake off of a 55 that will bolt right up if you need it.
Yep, they are rare as hens teeth. I was originally going to rebuild my 316 but I ended up pulling it out and getting a 400 out of a Firebird to put in it. I got it still sitting in a box on the shelf in my garage so hit me up whenever you need it
