Thanks, I still need to fab the ends of the rear cross member to fit inside the rails. I'm looking at a 7.5" drop. This will achieve getting it lowered without loosing to much bed depth. When I start putting the suspension under it next week I may determine if I would like to reverse the rear spring eye and take a couple of leafs out for additional drop.

  4. Where does the differential and the crossmember start to interfere with the bed.

It won't interfere. If my calculations are correct I will loose 5" of bed depth as I will make the bed sides drop over the rails and notch them. I will do a half round notch to both bottoms of the rails where the cross member meets to allow spring clearance without loosing frame strength. Basically the bed floor starts from the top of the cross member. The differential will be positioned about 3" below the rails and with the half notch to the rails will allow an additional 2.5" clearance.

Hears a '35 I pulled off the net with the spring behind front I-beam and the stance I'm going for. I don't like how the bottom of the bed looks, I'm going to do something similar, but do some finishing fab touches to the bottom.

I did a test fit to see what needed to be trimmed and fab. I'm not using the factory wood to elevate the bed so this will work.

Mocking up the suspension today. So far I have it set up to sit 6" off the ground. Once I get everything bolted up I will install the flathead and trans, which should drop it under load an additional 2" for a total of 4 inches off the ground.
Now for the front end? I'm still up in the air on wheelbase and what front cross member would work for this build to keep it in proportions . My thought is to do a modified 1932 cross member brought back about 4 or 5 inches to compensate for the spring behind the Dropped I-beam axle, this will keep it at 112" wheelbase rather than cutting the rear rail 5" to keep at 112" Thoughts? Please chime in.
The photos are just a mock up and shows the wheelbase at 116"

My friend Jim stopped by, so with the extra set of hands we through the body on. I will cut and channel the body over the rails tomorrow. The bottom of the rockers will sit flush with the bottom of the rails.

I never knew his last name. Is he the same Doug that use to have a '32 gl*** roadster , cream in color with a dirty red triangular stripe from grill to mid door, and drove his mother around all the time, best friends with Bruce Channy?

Don't know what he may be driving but I do know he is the caregiver for his Mom. He is on 2nd or 3rd street I think in an old dealer ship garage that is mostly covered up to keep prying eyes out. He fabs up some weird stuff for sure. If you ever get to see him tell him Walt from VT sent you by.

Nice looking 35, even if it is a 36 cab.

I started the channeling of the body over the rails this past weekend.

I have to decide if I want to channel over more. In this photo the cab is flush with the bottom of the rails.

I also played around with the positioning of the front end as well.

I will section the grill to proportion once I get everything positioned the way I want it.

I'm going to make a bracket on both sides for more strength.

The frame is now in proportion with a 112 1/2 wheelbase with suicide front end.

The frame was a lot of fun #?*&!!! Just have a couple of welds left on the x member and ready to clean, body work, & prep for paint. I'm thinking of painting the frame in Sikkens Rally Black single stage urethane, which will give it a satin finish and very easy to keep clean. I may decide to paint from the firewall forward body color depending on some pondering, either way it's going to look trick. I'm pretty sure at this point the firewall will be body color.

Todd, always liked just the frame covered myself. If you are as tall as i am I like a bit more head room and leg room. As always you are doing a great job. Walt

Thanks Walt. I'm 5'11" and was thinking not to get it slammed to the ground with a serious channel for just that reason ,for a little more leg room. I may however drop the front by 3/4" more to give the truck a little more at***ude.
