I posted earlier about the 59 Desoto wagon that my boyfriend built for his daughter to cruise in at car shows, but he also built a wagon for my daughter, too. We took this one to Fall Hershey 2013 last year, and to the Chryslers at Carlisle show this summer. Right now her wagon is being disassembled and undergoing the knife to extend the tub another 6 inches. She's decided to go with red, black, and pink 57 Plymouth fins instead, too. He'll be putting a working trunk, wiring the tail lights, and beefing up the suspension on this wagon as well. We'll use black and red glitter vinyl for her interior on the new one as well.
Thanks! We love being able to involve the kids in the hobby, and hope that they will someday be hotrodders, too. We've heard one or two people make comments that we've wasted perfectly good car parts, but the time that we get to spend doing this with our kids is priceless to us. Plus, it also doesn't hurt to not have to deal with the "I'm tired of walking. Please carry me" issues that always tend to arise at these events. Here's a couple photos from the build. They did involve quite a few beers over several weeks.
Taking the Desoto wagon apart so we can lengthen the tub 6 inches to give her some more leg room. Which means we had to choose new fins as well. She got to help take apart the old one last night. Thinking about using her old fins as a mini "route 66 Cadillac ranch" outside of her 50's gas station playhouse that I want to build for her next summer. She'll have a cool place to fill up the pedal cars. Here's the old one coming apart, and a shot of the new 57 Plymouth fins her wagon will debut at Hershey this year.
Finally getting some real progress done on the new fins. Not sure if I should start a new thread on them since they're no longer Desoto fins, but Plymouth ones. We've managed to extend the tub 6 inches and square the quarters up on it. Even installed LED's on one side, so the tail lights work. We've got another week or so to finish it up, so looks like we might be burning the midnight oil a few times till then!
It's aliiiiiiive! Well, it at least lights up. And, boy, is she bright. We are one step closer to putting this one back together now.
Made some more progress on the wagon. It's now sporting a trunk, trunk lid, and a bitchin' bumper. Hoping to have it finished by this weekend. We leave for Hershey on Tuesday.
