Howdy HAMBrs, I've been studying Halibrand's for a while now and this is the first set of wheels we spotted in years that I didn't recognize. The story goes (from the seller) that these were on Mickey's 1964 Indy car after USAC made him switch from his "roller skate" 12" wheels to the 15" ones to pass tech. Obviously, we know the fate of that Indy campaign and these were pulled out of a barn from a guy that had dealings with M/T in the 70s. The wheels are 15x7.5~. I've tried to track down how many cars were actually around, but there's not any info. I believe these are front wheels based on width and offset. Thoughts? Jon
They're just front wheels, I haven't found any info on rears but I believe they were 9.5" at the rear.
The remaining car is being restored and hopefully will be at Indy next June for the vintage races. The photos below are of it this summer before the restoration started and after the frame was restored to it's 1963 configuration that ran a small block alumium chevy motor instead of the 64 Ford cammer motor. For more information about the roller skate cars there is an excellent history on them on Dave McDonald web site that goes over the history of the cars and modifications to it between the 63 and 64 race where Dave was killed in the second lap.
