Well the other day I was heading home with my latest petroliana aquisition, an early 70's vintage two sided plastic Sinclair gas sign and pole, when I spotted this truck with a for sale sign. I pulled in and looked it over and talked to the owner. I fell in love with the stance and while talking to the owner he said it had a Fatman MII front end with a power rack, an 80's vintage 302 roller motor backed up by a toploader 4 speed spinning a Currie 9 inch rear. From the raidiator to the rearend has less then 4000 miles on it. The truck is really solid with very little rust. The owner said it came out of Texas and then spent most of its life in California. I am going to have to reengineer the rear shock mounts as they're laid over at such an angle that they dont do much good and its got too much bounce. All I'm planning to do in the immediate future is put a carpet kit in it to cover the dynamat and then slowly start adding some updates like A/C and other things.

Yes it was. I found it sitting at the old airport out on east Division street last week, the guy who owned it works there and his dad is the HMFIC. Jeff Johnmeyer is the guy who owned it.
Decided the other day that I was tired of the flat black look and wanted something different. Gave it some thought and decided to go with a "shoptruck" paint scheme so I headed to the farm and home store, bought some Ford Red tractor paint, a couple of rollers and some brushes and started in. I was really suprised at how well this paint flowed out after rolling it on. Anyway, got it all rolled on, did a little bit of body work on some extra holes for mirrors, and then let it dry for a week or so. Then I grabbed the sandpaper and started revealing the underlying paint and primers and so far I'm liking the way its looking. These first pics are after the red but before I started sanding.
And here it is after I've done some sanding. I'm not finished yet, I want to do some type of signwork on the door, I'd originally thought about a "Texaco" branded shop truck but being a firefighter of 30 years, I'm thinking about maybe some type of "Chiefs" truck maybe with some vintage FF tools in the bed or some vintage br*** nozzles ect. Dunno yet but I'm retiring on the 21st of Oct so the FF theme might get the nod. I liked it as well but the body was just too rough and I'm not a body man at all so I figured this would be the best option.
We are talking about the paint changes here, I think you nailed it and the Fire mans Logo on the doors will cap it off. Good Job. Larry
