I have been given an Isky camshaft for my Cad 331 engine but there is no technical information apart from "110 degrees 701 CMD-2 hyd" on the box. Isky's website does not list this cam. Can someone tell me timing details for this cam? Thanks.
First, how do you know that that box is the correct box for that cam? Isky has good records and can identify the profile, but what about the cam itself? Best is to send the cam to someone with a 'CamDoctor' or similar programme to read the profile. Also, if the cam is marked (which it should be), remember that an old cam may or may not still be that same profile as many old cams have been reground... .
Had lunch with ISKY yesterday, Did you ever think to call them? If you do, talk to ROD and if he does not have the answer, he will put you thru to Ron Iskendaian
Having talked with Rod in the past that is definately the way to go. Also the cam should have a stamp on the end of it with grind number. I know all the cams I have had from Isky did.
All of those are on a 108 LSA, the cam in question (even if its reground, you cant vary the LSA on an existing cam by more than a degree or two) is on a 110, so its none of those. I agree with the guys who say call Isky, and the CMD probably indicates that it was a custom grind for Cadillac Motorsports Development. http://www.cad500parts.com/ You could try contacting them as well.
Looking at what you've posted, if thats all thats stamped on the cam, and theres nothing else, you are gonna need a cam doctor. 701 is just Iskys prefix for a early cad cam, so thats not gonna help much. Are you sure theres no other numbers stamped on the cam? the -2 probably indicates that its ground 2 degrees advanced, in other words, 110 LSA, 108 ICL.
Many thanks for your input and advice. I hadn't realised that the old time experts were still there at Isky Cams so a phone call from England to California is on the cards. Falcon George's avatar had me giggling (I'm as lumberjack ... ), but his advice on the cam designation is good - I'll contact Cad500 as well. This forum never ceases to delight me with its range of experts and good advice. So pleased to be here.
I have spent my entire life in the Pacific Northwest, so I come by my avatar honestly... VERY cool car you have there. Heres one of my all time favorite hot rods, and I understand its in England now as well. I'm guessing you are probably familiar with it...
I did, and was told that CMD is Cadillac Motorsports Development, part of the Cad500 company as FalconGeorge surmised. I'm now in touch with them. Thanks, chaps. p.s. That's the Baldwin-Payne special above, which is now in England with Payne's son I believe, but it hasn't been out in compe***ion with the other flatheads over here - shame.
