My wife saw this on facebook this morning. Roadster and driver were heading to the Donut Derelicts get together. Another driver without insurance ran a red-light slammed the Roadster, the driver's OK. Anyone here know that rpu?

Damn! Looks to have once been a sweet RPU. Thank God the driver appears unhurt.
What's going on out there in SoCal anyway...............is it "open season" on hot rods?

Glad no one was hurt, lucky. Uninsured motorist, huh? Well doesn't that just figure. I hope everything works out OK, that was a cool RPU.

Glad he's okay. Damn, this is getting to be all too frequent. Lots of distracted people on the roads. Be careful, that's all you can do.

Here's the thing about California, when you purchase a car, the plates stay on the car. If someone purchases a car they are free to just get in it and drive. When my son went to College in Cal we purchased a car for him. I went to get insurance and was amazed how expensive it was. The agent told me that is so expensive because of the "high number of uninsured drivers". I explained to her that in NY, when ever you purchase a car, you remove the plates and turn them in to the DMV and the new owner has to prove proof of insurance in order to get new plates. She replied "what a great idea". Am I missing something, don't the California authorities understand this?

Maybe too much paper work? Here in CT law enforcement has plate readers, tells in a heartbeat whether insured or not and I think it does so automatically....

That type of wreck is alllll too familiar. Hmm..... My lesson was, no matter how much you pay attention to **** around you, if trouble wants you, it will find you. Thus my SEEMINGLY carefree at***ude about safety measures. You can wrap your body and car with balloons and you'll get hit by a truck hauling needles.

After my wreck, I immediately installed every safety device I could. Naw.... just kidding.:D Looks like the driver made out okay. Always good to see that.

In Alabama you have to show current insurance or you don't get it registered, they won't even put it in your name. Last time I registered an antique they wouldn't take my word for having antique insurance and I had to stand there and wait until Grundy faxed them all the information.
I just had to delete some of my post about "uninsured motorists" because it might have trended toward being political. We don't need any drama getting people banned.

Always remember the State Insurance Commisioner is suppose to be on YOUR side. If you really think the ins. laws and requirements in your state need to be changed this is where you need to start not with your ins. agent. In N.C. this is an elected office and they will listen to YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

26hotrod, California is very different. They literally have thousands of miles of roads they call "Freeways" and the state is bankrupt. Any politician that mentions the dirty word "TOLLS" can kiss their carrier over, even though it would put millions of bucks into the states anemic bankroll!

I was stationed there for 4 years, but never owned a vehicle or had to deal with the DMV or other political en***ies, but around the San Diego Naval yard, the roads were good.... for the most part. But that drive to the base in Long Beach was always a dreaded task. My shop literally pulled cards from a deck to see who got stuck with the task of driving there.

How can the hot bed of vehicle freedom, seem to be so screwed up, when it comes to vehicle ownership. But, man, you can't beat the weather! GAWD, I miss the weather and proximity to skiing. I knew guys who surfed on Saturday and went snow skiing on Sunday.

Sidebar: photos of two vehicles that took hits to the left front, and so far no discussion about broken axles?

That's simply not true. You were misinformed. Everyone is required to show proof of insurance when registering any vehicle here. Some people just don't bother with registering their cars. It's illegal, but with over 30 million cars in this state, it's gonna happen.

that DMV clerk is an idiot. the DMV and insurance is connected via computer. when my daily driver blew a headgasket and I bought another car I cancelled the insurance and the DMV sent a letter to me because I had a car that was registered and uninsured. when we pay our registration we have to show proof of insurance or we do not get our tags.

so if this guy had no insurance, he probably had out of date registration and a good chance he did not have a license as well.

I spose the driver of the car that ran the red was texting! I see it all the time here in wisconsin. It's a dam shame that a nice truck got wasted. Glad everyone is ok!

Bob is correct, This is Cigar Larry's RPU. He banged up his knee and elbow, a couple of stiches on his forehead, and he is a bit sore. He is already talking about fixing his car. Looking at the front bumper, he is hoping his frame is still straight. Cigar Larry has owned this car since he was 15 years old. He drove to high school. And about 2 or 3 years ago drove it to his 50th high school reunion. Cigar Larry is a great guy, and always approachable about talking about his cars. This RPU runs a Four Port Riley overhead B block banger with full oil pressure. Cigar is a member of the 4 ever 4 Cylinder club, and has a couple of other cars. A Model T Phaeton, and Model A Sedan Delivery. Here is a couple of pics of the Roadster Pick-Up on better days.

We wish Cigar well, and hope for a fast recovery. We also wish him well on putting his Roadster Pick-up back on the road. Anybody have some spare fenders and a commercial grill and headlights. Let's see if we can help him get this thing back on the road.

Oh, and all you knucklheads wondering why the California DMV is so screwed up, and why we have so many un-licensed, un-insured drivers, ........ it's cause we have the most un-do***ented people out of all 50 states. Enough said there, as I don't want to get banned for being political. Oh, and I was being nice.

Also (at least a year ago) you could put insurance on your car, get your tags, and then cancel the insurance after a week or two. Then (if you're dumb enough or illegal) you can drive around uninsured with current tags.

Driving without insurance and being involved in an accident should be an arrestable offense and the uninsured auto should be impounded as well and not released till it is insured.

Long time back I judged a small car show in Visalia, and awarded the cl*** win to Cigar Larry.
A few disgruntled runners-up questioned how a 'stock old Model A truck' won out over their mid-'50s entries..."I've got tons of bodywork done..."
I explained the R/PU's obvious roots, and asked them to look at the gem, most agreed that they were now 'educated'.
    Hope Larry's frame isn't bent...

The driver of the Dodge was cited for running a red light, driving without
a license, and not having a valid insurance card. So glad Larry is okay.
    Be careful out there guys!!!!

It's amazing people. I live in Simi Valley, Ca. The same exact situation has happened to me twice, I'm tired of getting banned so I'm not saying anymore. Gods speed to Larry.
