I recently purchases an Edmunds intake for my '48 Plymouth 218 and have a couple of questions. Anyone have any idea for the inlet on the far right corner of the manifold (see pic) is intended for? Also, any thoughts on the need to run water through the intake? I live in TX and would prefer must to cap the water inlet and outlet. As always, please enlighten me!
I've never ran a water heated manifold and always just used caps and hose clamps. I wouldn't think that you'd need a heated manifold in Texas. If like down here, it gets HOT. That is a nice looking manifold, wouldn't be too many of them around! When enlarged the rear fitting appears to be a small vacuum port and not large enough for a hose? Might be just me. EDIT. I just some googling and that could be a Chevy 216, the MOPAR manifolds appear different. Here's an old HAMB thread and that picture posted looks pretty much identical. There are a few on E-bay at present.
Pretty sure the one you posted is a Chevy intake. The Plymouth intake would have angled flanges on the ends, like this one: It has the same port as the one you posted and I would assume it's for vacuum as mgtstumpy said.
It's an inlet to heat the intake as was mentioned above. We have one for the large 25" Chrysler/Desoto block.
The water tube should run just under the carb flanges, from under one carb to out under the second. It runs through the "deeper" center section. I tought the port he was asking about was the smaller one on the corner of the manifold.
Thanks for the feedback. The image I posted wasn't actually my intake... the intake I have came off of the same motor I have... that said, I freak'd out there for a second, but double checked and all is well.
