I have a 39 chevy I am making into a hot rod. I installed a chevy van column with no key in column. I wanted to put a new ignition in the stock dash hole. I bought one but it's to fat to clear the bottom of dash where it curves under. Anyone know what ignition switch will fit stock or aftermarket?
I want to keep the dash clean and simple and use the stock location if possible. Thanks

I used the switch that came with a Ron Francis wiring kit for a '39 Chevy; it was too large to fit in the stock location. I ended up making a small panel below the dash for it, nothing fancy. That doesn't really fit what you're wanting. Maybe fit the switch vertically behind the dash, with the key going in from below. Then find a push ****on "start" switch to fit the stock location. It won't have the glow ring around it like all these late-model cars that have a push-to-start ****on, but it will help un-clutter your dash!

I have a 39 Chevy and wanted to do the same thing. I found the ignition switch from a 70's thru early 80's Dodge van or motorhome fit well. The bezel is off center from the body of the switch allowing it to fit perfectly. Get as much of the wiring behind the switch as you can; have a new key made and there you go. Dave
