trying to find out if there is a spacer/gromet between the crankshaft oil slinger (washer) and the harmonic balancer. I was getting a rattle and found the slinger was loose and rubbbing against the timing cover. Tightened up the balancer and now have a whine. Cannot find a schematic or a part that is listed other than the slinger. Anyone familiar with these motors and what is missing, if anything. thanks Bill
I am not positive, never had a flathead 6 apart, but, on a lot of engines I've worked on, from Fords to Macks, there is what's called a thrust bearing that attached to the block by the crankshaft and prevented the crank from moving back and forth. Loosen up the balaancer and see how much the crank moves from front to back. I'm sure someone will post that can add to this or even disprove it. Just my 2 cents.
Looked in the green bible and just the slinger is supposed to be there..maybe in backwards and rubbing cam gear is only thing I can guess at..
thanks but it's not the crank moving, its the washer between the timing gear and harmonic balancer that I'm trying to find out if there was a gromet/spacer...I believe there was one on the flatheads V8, but not the 6
thanks...I saw this but found another schematic that also showed a part #6359 in addition to the 6310..it's been confusing
