Hi, Was originally going to run a 327 in the hot rod and already have a 6v2 Offy intake and 6 97's. However I just ran across a '57 283 that I may build instead. I am thinking a 4v2, which I don't have, would be better for a hot 283 as the current manifold may be to much. And I don't want to run the 6v2 as a 4v2. Thoughts? --louis
6 carbs is cool as hell to look at. There's a lot better ways to make it get down the road though. Much will depend on the runner size in the manifold and keeping the velocity high with lessened demand from smaller cubed 283. You'd better know what you are doing to keep them tuned up.
Had 6x2 setup on my sedan and never had to touch the carbs once we got em synched up. Ran em w straight linkage. Ya puttin a manual ****** behind it? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Probably running a 4 speed behind the engine. Thinking of going max bore with ported heads. It has 461s w/ 1.94s on it now so I am debating looking for a set of power packs. Probably run the 461s since they are on there. Car will be a model A on 32 rails so pretty light. --louis
Just my opinion but that is way to much carburation for a street driver 283. Running heads that were made for engines with a 4" bore on a 283 will shroud the intake valves and really hurt the breathing. Any cam that takes advantage of the 6X2 setup will have no low end whatsoever, even a light car with standard trans will be a handful. Just saying.....
Go with the 283! I have no personal experience with a 6x2, but I'm sure you'll be able to sort it out or get help doin it. They look awesome and no question, period correct.
If you use progressive linkage....your only driving around on the center carbs.... will be roughly 300 or so CFM at WOT for the 2 ........use the ends for your secondary's when you feel the need to jump in the throttle that hard.......properly tuned carbs you'll be fine to run all 6
Just pulled the trigger on the 283. Been reading a lot of posts on building hot 283s. Excited to get another piece of the puzzle to fall into place. --louis
