i guess i should start off by introducing myself i'm 19 and from ca i've got a 71 challenger and hopefully here soon i'll be starting on a more traditional hot rod pretty much set on a fibergl*** t body with a 20in bed and pretty much set up like midwest kustoms sinister tee. it'll be powered by either a straight 292 or 4.3 with the 4.3 being dressed up to look alot more ol skool then it is and backed up by either a 5 or 4 speed manual.. Well anyways i remember seeing a car craft article afew years ago where they built up a 4.3 pretty decently and then later ended up supercharging it... has anyone seen this article or have a copy of it? Thanks in advance Josh
Be like the rest of us SIX freaks, put the straight 292 in there with 2 or 3 carb manifold and headers.
Here is one at HOT ROD mag, on line ...H http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/113_0208_v6/index.html
Built a 4.3 for a friend's boat that used similar tricks to the one in the HotRod article - flat tops from a 350, performer intake, 600 CFM 4bbl, mild cam, undercut stainless valves - never dynoed it but it sure ran great and suprised the heck out of me - it was able to out holeshot stock 350 V8 powered boats due to less weight and a flatter (non-v) hull sitting up out of the water and it even keept up pretty good on the top end so I knew it was healthy! ~I had guessed 260-280 HP, but their dynoed ~300 hp sounds about right...
Dont know about that but here is a little one. http://www.nelsonracingengines.com/VIDEOS/TURBO/1000HPV6HIGH.WMV
One of the guys I race dirt track with had a 4.3. His had 229 heads with 202 valves in it and sbc pistions. That thing would screem. It ran right with the 400+ hp sbc I was runing at the time. Allso I run a 85 4.3 in my 34 chevy tub. I cought alot of **** for putting it in the car but I like it. Its got alot of balls for that lil car and gets great milage as well. Im planing a new roadster project now and there is allready a 4.3 in my garage to put in it.
