Event Coverage 2014 Newport Hill Climb Pics!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ClayMart, Oct 5, 2014.

  1. This was my second trip to Newport and it was just as impressive as my first trip last year. The cooler weather may have thinned the car count down a little bit but there was still a ton of interesting cars and trucks to check out. Looked like a good spectator turn out as well. And why shouldn't it be when the whole day only costs $10 per carload! You can't have more fun than this for that price! If it only could've been maybe 10 degrees warmer on Saturday...

  2. Add some of your own pics if you like. :D I'll get some more prepped and added here tomorrow. Enjoy!

  7. I've only missed the Hill Climb about 5 times in my 37 years. Amazing how many "car guys" know nothing of the event, even semi-locally.

It was a great show, just a little cold! A record number up the Hill Sunday, I heard over 200 cars and early bikes. Over 1000 cars total. Best show for the buck, get your car in, with a passenger, all weekend, preregister for $15.

  9. They fooled us for a moment with these two trucks. We looked them over a bit but never really figured our exactly what we were looking at. Now I'd guess that they started out as a car chassis and body that was cut away to have the bed added on? Or maybe not. These things could have been slapped together 40 or 50 years ago for all I know. o_O The Dodge even had dual sidemounts!

  10. That Packard is a jewel. But there's a couple pics coming up here of an Olds convertible that I think gives it a run for it's money!

Newport's become one of my new favorite car shows. I'm just kicking myself for not finding out about it earlier! :(

  11. Man you take nice photos !! JW:)

  12. Awwww, Gosh! Now y'all are kinda making me blush... But if you take enough pictures you're bound to get some keepers. :D

So here's the last couple batches of photos from this year's Hillclimb, including that sweet Olds convertible that I mentioned earlier. Glad you enjoyed them, but if you're in the area at all you really need to check out this show in person.

Here's the Oldsmobile that to my eye looked almost as good as that Packard. Somebody put a lot of thought into making this a very classy looking ride. :D

The DeSoto sounded pretty wicked going up the hill:

I hadn't been to Newport since 1992 as a Junior in High School; It was really fun to take my kids there for the first time this year. They had a blast, but I don't think they really stood a chance in the Big Wheel races against all of those Indiana kids with racing in their blood. ;) Since Grandpa lives just over the border in IL, I think this trip will become an annual tradition. (I just hope it's not so cold and windy next year!) Newport 41.jpg Newport 40.jpg Newport 42.jpg

  28. Good shootin' there! The kids look like they were having nearly as much fun as the adults. And you got shots of some cars that I didn't even see there as well as a few HAMBer's cars. You got there before we did. They were just finishing up the big wheel races as we were walking in from the parking lot. :D
