Event Coverage The Race Of Gentlemen: Film Outtakes

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ryan, Oct 6, 2014.

  1. TROG was incredible. I arrived in the coupe Friday at about 7:30 and the street party was in full swing. The sights, sounds and smells through out the weekend were amazing. I have never experienced anything like it. I spent most of my time bouncing around between the pits and the staging lanes with the remainder spent hanging by the starting line. I was really hoping to run into you Ryan. I would have loved to say hello.

Miller has great taste in cars. Andy's car is crazy cool. I was in the pits when Andy came whipping in after a run complaining about a miss. I helped unlatch the hood and Jumped right in trying to help Andy located the miss. I probably wasn't really much help, I was too distracted by how he fit the 8ba into that small of a space. It truly was 10lbs of **** in a 5lb sack. I always loved the car, but now have a much better appreciation for all of Andy's work on it. Wow, just wow...

I hope you and Miller had a great father/son experience and the that trip home went smoothly.

Andrew is a great guy, met him at the race and ran against him. Moments after I helped him push start his car because the battery was dying, he blew the doors off the T after I missed my shift into 2nd. It didn't matter though, we had a great time joking and laughing after the race. It was all in good fun and that's why we all showed up!

I like these "outtake" photos because they are much like the cars and the drivers...These photos all have character and little imperfections, much like the racecars and drivers running them. Behind the scenes, these cars are constantly being tuned. Batteries being charged, carburetors being rebuilt, points being adjusted...they all need a little tweeking and wrenching. Drivers are also constantly being tuned...fine tuning their launch, reaction times, and shifts. Even with all this happening, no one ever lost sight of the reason we were all there...To get together with like minded people and simply have a great time!

Thanks Mel, The Oilers, and everyone that showed up to make this an unforgettable weekend!

If those were "outakes", the others must be over the top incredible.

i don't know how i am just seeing this thread . that little track roadster of Andy's was my favorite car of the event besides my own #154 roadster of course , ha ha , and lucky for your boy Miller , he got a shot in front of both of them during his little sneak attack into the pits . i wish i had seen you , i would definitely have let you take your boy for a ride in my roadster !

Some day I'll make one of these events... but seen from afar one of the most enjoyable aspects of all the event coverage for me are the graphics on the cars - the colors and designs. This particular design just amazed me. I suppose it's just me, but I'm really glad to see that someone (just who I don't know, sorry) has taken that strange, ratty old "I tried, but can't even remotely paint flames" paint jobs from the past - those wavy, torn, dumb-***ed looking terrible flame jobs seen on all kinds of early race cars and hot rods - and not only improved it 1000 percent, but made it their own. This particular scallops / flame mix is a knockout, IMHO. Gary

and somehow you missed this photo opp. LOL this sticker was one of the few things on my car that was not pre 1953 and it was designed so well that it looks like it was there since the 50's
