2k urethane primer surfacer. I cant seem to sand these pinholes ? Out. They dont really look like pinholes , not sure if i had a reaction to something or if not sanding enough. I went from 150 to 320 to 400 grit and still getting this. You couldnt see them after each coat of primer , only after sanding. Will single stage urethane cover it up? Thanks.
I too have run into these exact indentions. Am curious of its origin. I ended up using a glaze to fill them and re-primed with good results.
I get something like that when I just don't sand it enough. More elbow grease is required. But I don't really know what I'm doing with paint....
Paint usually amplifies that sort of thing, not hide it. Was that a spot of over spray, too dry, heavy orange peel ? Looks like cellulite in the lower right corner I'd sand them out completely reprime that area and block it again
Just looks like you have a lot of orange peel that you haven't sanded out yet. Are you using a guide coat? Apply a guide coat and sand until it is all gone then you know you are flat. Don't move on the the next grit until you have removed all the guide coat with the grit you are using. Once you have a uniform colour (no dark spots from guide coat)you know that it is flat, reapply guide coat and repeat with finer grits.
Advantage 312 primer surfacer, 10 minutes flash , 75 to 80 outside. Its doing it on 60 percent of the truck, not just a spot. Since it looks smooth after primer wondering if I could just add reducer to the primer to make it a sealer ,then shoot color.
Trying to figure out why its so lumpy- Was that over pitted metal ? If its coming out of the gun in globs and laying down orange peel, the globs don't/won't/can't knit together and leave holes between the globs when you sand the tops of the globs off. Globs meaning not finely atomized paint/primer material.
What size tip are you spraying with? Their info sheets don't seem to give a recommendation but most high build primers work best with a 1.8 or larger.
I think 31Vicky with a hemi got my anwser. I used a 1.4 tip on the last 2 primes ,it didnt come out in globs but still came out rough with a lot orange peel. I think I might have been polishing it when wet sanding instead of cutting. Im going back with 400 dry and it seams to be knocking it down smooth now. Have to look at it in the sun tomorrow to be sure . I think my first paint job coming out good was beginners luck as this ones been fighting me the whole way.
1.4 is too small for high build you need a larger tip. Again when sanding make sure you have things perfectly flat from the co****st grit you use. Trying to knock texture down with 400 grit is a waste of your time. Get it flat will a co****r grit then all your other sanding steps will be MUCH faster.
400 Guide coat the whole job. Block it with 150 till its flat and that garbage is gone. Pretend it never happened but it was actually sanding practice
Your going to want to sand that out before you spray anything on it or it will come back to haunt you. C an you tell us what is under the primer ??
