I've seen them done in fibergl***, how about steel ones? I picked up a rear section for a '51 merc and I'm gonna make a couch out of it (someday). Anyone have any tips on making one or pictures?
I took the sides and tail offa rusty(at the bottom) 63 Caddy 4dr. and made a queensize bed once. Used a short section of the trunk for a chest. Just used the skin and had it bolt together at the doorjambs for easy moving. Was gonna wire the taillights and all. Had that thing sold before I finished it. Hadn't even finished the inside framing to make it waterbed friendly. Guy was so exstatic he threw cash at me and hauled it out to his truck incomplete, right then and there. Never even took a pic...
"Korbin" has been making these things for quite some time now. You can go online and see the different ones, or order a catalog. I have one of their catalogs, and it shows an un***embled one. This might help in see how they construct theirs.
I've made several over the years. Cut it behind the decklid and cut you a boadr to fit or weld in a piece to enclose the back. The boaard makes it lighter. Cut as much extra matel as you can off, they are heavy as hell/ You can cut some out of the center also and make ore of a love seat if you need a smaller one. They're easy to do.Build a basoc frame for the bottom and put casters on it. TP
coolest car-bed i've seen was a 64 impala bed painted on the cover of some album that the guy from KORN had. saw it in the record store. the roof was cut off, had wheels and all, so the open "tub" area was a huge mattress. lottery dream # 436...
I have many peices of automotive furniture in my collection. I found a company called sweet sofas in illinois. They do sell this stuff completed but i have the construct my furniture then i do the body work, paint, and ***embly. They are very reasonable and you can't do the work yourself for the money. I found the phone number in my file (815) 684 5310. I saw a website sometime ago belive it was www.sweetsofas.com
check out www.jakeschopshop.com, those are some of the coolest ones i've seen and Jake is super cool too.
Im hoping to do one soon with this 57 dodge... I was thinking about making it so the seat comes out easy, bumper comes off and the boot is in two sections. Would make it easier to get around, through doorways etc...
This is a good page where it shows (not it much detail) making a 59 caddy couch... http://cadillacworld.homestead.com/makingthecouch.html
