Heres the pictures of my 33 Plymouth coupe . Levis Classic was asking for these as he's got a similar project in the works. If you cant afford a 32 Ford, (and who can?) the next best thing are the 33-34 Plymouths. They're a great car with a strong frame , and suicide doors. Another advantage is they already look chopped! I've been working on mine for a little over two years and did everything myself except for pressing the bearings on the rear end and the upholstery. This body has a flat firewall, bobbed rear and a filled top. Its been channeled 5 inches- no chop. The tires are Coker bias ply Firestone Cheater slicks on the rear chromies. I chose these cause it was important to me that the tire fill up the rear fender line. I hate cars where the tires look lost back there because of their small diameter. The fronts are Coker Firetone wide white bias plys.on some Mark II wheels (?) I just cleaned these relics up and they look pretty good The rear end is a Ford 9 inch 3.50 ratio on a homebuilt forbar with panhard bar, The shocks are coilover Carrera. I love the look of this car from the ass end. I picked up the rear for 75 bucks The engine is a 300 horse 350 out of a 70 GM fullsize. I've made no modifications, although I have a 4 2 barrel manifold and carbs waiting, .I just dressed it up a bit with red wires and those "Stand back its gonna burst into flames any second!" red fuel lines. The headers are a Speedway kit. The stock 33 comes with a parallel leaf front end which I removed and replaceed with this suicide front tubular dropped axle. Front drums are Econoline. box is Vega. The interior was done by my buddy Howie. Seat is Dodge Caravan, Black pleated naugahyde with an embroidered panel. Ceiling is Black fur, and floor is Black shag carpet The gauges are Stewart Warner shitty classic wings guages and yes, thats a tilt column. I'm gonna drive this sumbitch and I want to be comfortable!! I've got a few more detais to sew up this week, but damn it feels good to be done!! now if the snow would only leave!!!
Well done , I agree with you in the mopar stuff of this era, looks great with simple mods to the body and doesnt need a chop as you aready said! Id like to see the emroidery on the seat if you have a pic of it.
The embroidered panels are on the doors. they came from the sleeves of Chaz's favorite sweatshirt. the seat is just pleats, This is a great car and the pics really don't show how cool it is
Sharp looking ride. I've been saving most of the peices to build a similar car for 30 years, but have never found a body. I've also lost the front disc brake setups & had to sell the 355 geared posi rearend. (sigh) I still haven't given up, though. Looking for anything Mopar from '30 to '36. Don't need the frame or suspension (will make all that). Would love fenders but don't care if all I get is a body, top of hood, & grill shell. Coupe, sedan, 2 dr., 4 dr.; I don't care - just as long as I have something to work with. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" You talkin' dirty or hep?
The taillights are 50 Pontiac... The cool thing is the left one fit in the original gas filler tube hole so I only had to drill one hole for 2 taillights - an advantage for a lazy guy like me..... The front directionals are those little amber skull shaped lights they sell at your local truck stop. The wire covers going to the headlights are those woven stainless toilet supply tubes from the local hardware. I did a lot of wrangling and trading, but theres less than 6 grand total hard money in this car...
First off, you have my respect and admiration... cool ride & you did it almost all yourself. I wish I had the tools and the space to do that. I like everything about it... well, i could live without the spiderweb grill. I'm amazed at how well the van seat looks in there... nice. All it needs is a little glass etching Seriously, congrats... nice job, and on a decent budget too... that's the ticket man. What's a '32 Ford?
Sweet Ride Kat! I drove a 33 PD coupe for 16 years. Still miss that car. Would have never sold it but the older I get the more comfort I want and so I went with the big ragtop. I think I still have the 33 grill insert hanging in my holding garage! I know you're gonna have fun driving it! 48 Poncho
wow man, nice job. that body is really cool, it certainly does have a nice ass. did plymouth make a sedan style body during those years? it totally looks like its had a mild chop. is that the stock frame? im kinda partial to mopar stuff, someday ill build a rod. thats next on the list after my 60's custom chrysler & my 50's custom buick.
I agree with Guiseart. The car is very cool, but I think the web grille insert is a bit much. Takes away from what is otherwise a very nice car.
