dudes!, does anyone know if the front spindles on a early chevy van is the same as gm a- body (chevelle)? were talking 64'-68' and if we get it back on the road the brakes need a update to disc's and duel mc. anyone messing around with these and have any db. info? thanks.
Not exactly what you asked for, but I read that the aluminum finned drums from the Buick Skylark GS (67 or so ) will "bolt right up" to early chev van spindles. I have both an early (68) chev van, and a set of backing plates and drums from that buick, and I've been meaning to see if it is true. Don't know if author meant using buick backing plates too, or just the drums with Chev backing plates?? Good luck. Mark.
60s chevy vans have a beam axle and king pins, chevelles have ball joints, no way the spindles will interchange. Chevy drum brakes work pretty well, why not just fix them and learn how to drive without tailgating, you'll be fine.
i do realize that the van has kingpins and chevelles have ball joints i wanted to know if for example a 66' chevy van and a 70' chevelle has the same spindle dimensions for a disc conversion. i won't drive anything with front drum brakes anymore. having a duel mc. is also a safety upgrade on anything i own or drive. only a fool tailgates in a old chevy van or anything else for that matter. good way to die, not by impact but road rage!
Do you just want to know if the rotor will fit on the spindle? a good way to find this is to go to an online catalog like rock auto and look up the wheel bearings for both vehicles, they usually give the bore sizes. I ***ume you'll make the caliper brackets yourself? edit: here are a couple links http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1322187,parttype,1672 http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1039283,parttype,1672 as you can see they use the same bearings
good idea dude! yes to making the caliper brackets. just thought someone had possibly done it before. stay cool!
