'39 Was just a great high-water mark for FoMoCo. I'd take a '39 DeLuxe over a '40 Ford any day. But given all the monies in the world, I'd go with that LeBaron Coupe. Just imagine it with just a little, mild, flair and drop. I'll take mine without side-mounts and a rework of the front headlights, maybe to Cord retractables. It just oozes cl***ic cool and fully fulfills the point of any 'big' '30s car: To remind the less fortunate, that they are less fortunate.
Of all the "fat fendered" cars of that era, I think the '39 Ford Deluxe coupe is at the top of the heap in style. I love 'em. If I didn't already have way too many cars/trucks, I would get one but I am at my limit now.
I can't be certain, but I don't think I've ever seen a Lincoln K series in the flesh, of any year. Very interesting.
I love the 39 Deluxe Tudor which I feel lucky to own. That said I think the 39 Deluxe convertibles either Ford or Merc are way way up there!!! TEB Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Finally Edsel convinced his father to follow the successful GM formula of "a car for every purse and purpose".
As a long-time '40 deluxe owner, I'd also chose a '39 deluxe over it anytime, except for the dash, a '40 dash is about the most beautiful part Ford ever made. (except maybe a Deuce grille, or a '33 grille, or a Deuce Victoria body, or...............................)
The 39-40 mercurys have extra width and length than the fords, this to me makes them a smoother looking better style.
