  1. In 30 years of this shit, this is the worse I've seen! This was brought in by a student for "show and tell", found at the local wrecking yard.

In Ontario, we joke that in Quebec they put on bondo with trowel due to the amount of salt they use, but this is hard to beat.

I've seen a couple of late 60's GM cars where the bottom door skins were gone and they stuffed the door with newspaper and made the entire bottom of the door out of bondo. Nice.

I am working on a 51 lincoln and deleaded the car in one spot. The dent was 2" deep in one spot. They just filled it with lead. Now that is crazy. The lead I pulled out weighed about 15lbs

About 12 years ago at my auto parts store, I happened to see a a 69 Dodge Dart drive by with a HUGE dent on the passenger side quarter panel. The car was a 2 door model and the dent was from the rear door pillar all the way to the taillamp. The dent must have been more than 3 inches deep at the middle. The next day a couple of kids came in and bought a gallon on Bondo. The day after that they bought another gallon. The very next day, they bought a quart. I didn't think much of it until a week later. I saw the same Dart with the two kids in it. The quarter panel had been "repaired" with the Bondo. It was so thick I could see their hand prints in the "repair" work on the panel. They had scooped up the Bondo with their hands and smeared it on the panel like it was molding clay. The panel look like a 2 year old's finger painting! The kicker was the dent wasn't even close to being fixed and the car leaned to the passenger side at the rear.

When the 1st of the Lamborghini Espada's came to San Diego my father was down at the shop that prepped them after they were shipped over from Italy. The shop would detail and tune the cars before they were sent to the dealers show room.

The assembly could range from ok to shitty. Doors would be out of line etc. On one of the cars they could not get the door shut correctly, it sagged, it felt really wierd and in general was a pain the ass. It turned out that the door had been stove in and that the whole thing had been filled in with lead. The prep shop hit the side of the door with a torch to melt all the lead off and found out that it was about 3-4" thick in one spot...

So much for expensive italian sports cars.

I had a 69 roadrunner that had some bondo cracking in the quarter pane..so I thought I would grind the crack and fix it....dug in an inch without hitting steel ...so i did what any lazy guy would do...mudded it back up and sold the damn car (at least I told the buyer it was there!)

In highschool, a friend of mine was all pissed off at something and kicked the door of his mid 70s Ford stationwagon. A sheet of bondo popped off of the door to reveal a dent about the size of the whole door. The bondo was about 1" thick at its thickest and had to be 20" in diameter. The funny (or not so funny) thing about it was that it was a clean dent (no sharp creases) underneath and the paint was decent. He was able to pop the dent out and it looked passable.

i may be able to beat that with the front fenders of the truck-- i would go and look and take pics, but im afraid what i would actually find...

i know that there is bondo on both sides and there is rush coming through both sides, but i couldn't tell you hw much-- but i would guess a couple of gallons on the front end.

at least it wasn't on a car one of the students was working on...

You'll never hold that record...there's always another punk kid out there with an even faster trowel...

My favorite bodywork story was from someone whose neighbor had just purchased a do-it-yourself body repair book so he could fix a front fender dent in his VW beetle. The neighbor, carefully following the book, had drilled about 15 holes in his fender, affixed a K Mart slide hammer, yanked out the dent, and gone to work bondoing up the holes...on a fender so accessible that the backside could have been pounded out without even removing the wheel!

Nah, I think I might have you beat. My Stude pickup had the the entire bottom of a door SCULPTED out of Bondo. He even used chicken wire as a reinforcement material. I have pics I will have to find. The guy at least informed me it was already there though before I bought, so no surprises.

  23. "Adobe Car" (From Saturday Night Live)

Spokesman: These days, everyone's talking about the Hyundai, and the Yugo. Both nice cars, if you've got $3,000 or $4,000 to throw around. But, for those of us whose name doesn't happen to be Rockefeller, finally there's some good news - a car with a sticker price of $179. That's right, $179. The name of the car?

Adobe. The sassy new Mexican import that's made out of clay. German engineering and Mexican know-how helped create the first car to break the $200 barrier. At this price, you might not expect more than reliable transportation - but, brother, you get it! Extra features: like the custom contour seats, or the beverage-gripping dash. And the money you save isn't exactly small change!

    Jingle:
    "Hey, hey, we're Adobe!
The little car that's made out of clay!
We're gonna save you some money
that you can spend in some other way!
    Hey, hey, we're Adobe!
    Hey, hey, we're Adobe!
    Adobe!"

[ show Adobe driver get into a fender-bender. She casually steps out of the vehicle and uses her hands to mold her bumper back into its proper shape, in under six minutes! ]

Spokesman: Adobe. You can buy a cheaper car. But I wouldn't recommend it!

Announcer: Not approved for street use in some states. No warranty either expressed or implied. All sales final.

Bought an low mileage early '70's Chevy pickup from a widow -- wife wouldn't let me try to get her to come down on the price even though there was a lot of unsanded bondo showing right behind the front wheels.

I hit the bondo with a jitterbug for about 30 seconds and the whole chunk fell out -- both fenders were rusted so bad only about an inch of the front and back edges were left for about 18 inches.

Got to working on the truck and discovered the whole cab was seriously eaten up -- turned out the old man had only driven it to Florida for a two-week fishing trip. He'd park on the beach, fish all day, etc. then bring it back to Kentucky and park it in the garage:rolleyes:

Replaced the fenders, painted it all a nice color and sold it! (I did warn the buyer about the rust:rolleyes: )

the worst i ever saw was about a year ago, i went to look at a willy's sedan that was for sale. it had fresh paint but still needed final assembly. when i got to the guys house he was trying to get the drivers door glass in it. he couldn't get the glass to go in because the channel was up to high. i was real interested in the car so was trying to be nice and offered to help, so i proceed to take off the door panel "holly fuckin shit" the whole inside of the door was bondo. the owner who was older and couldn't do the work himself had brought the car to some profesional autobody place for rust repair and paint. this "profesional" shop repaired the rust in the bottom of the doors by duct taping the holes shut from the outside and filling the door up with bondo. their was litterally gallons, probably like 5-10 inside the door, it was filled up to the point whare the window channels couldn't go all the ways down, something like 15-20 inches up from the bottom of the door was solid bondo.
needless to say i passed on the car but i did bitch at the profesional shop for screwing the old man and they ended up giving him a large portion of his money back before they went out of buisness a few months later.

naw it saskatchewan canada pretty much all old vehicles have bondo in them
some guy tried to patch the rust on my tailgate by pop riviting half a tin can behind it and then slapping some bondo over it
the sad thing is that they were to lazy fill the rest of the holes on the tailgate it was just the one spot that they did
then they tried to fill one spot of the mangled box but they just put a skim layer over it so it stll looks mangled. i was spraying it witht they water hose one day and all i had to do was use a screw driver and it peals of just like that\

they must have run out of mud

Was it a Boyd Coddington car?

I was amazed at the amount of filler used on the TV show.

That's pretty fancy, but I've seen far worse. A hispanic guy my dad works with got t-boned on a Friday night in his 1/2 ton Chevy truck. They replaced the rear end (broken axle and flange) and got new stainless trim for the fender and bodyline at the junkyard.

They were so proud of themselves that they had it straight and painted and ready to drive in to work on Monday. The only other thing they used to fix the truck was a hammer and bondo. It was at least 4-5" deep in MOST of the affected area. It all fell off by Thursday.... they hadn't even washed the area that they piled that shit on top of...

The pile of model a parts I got awhile back had way thicker bondo than that. The wholre bottom half of the door skin was made of bondo ranging from a half inch thick to damn near 3 inches thick! I saved the big ass chunk for awhile to show people.......
