A friend called me on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to say he received an E-mail that Poteet was caught by a side gust of wind at B'ville and was blown onto his side at 400+mph. The car suffered obvious damage but Poteet walked away. God bless Poteet. Any truth to this?
It's somewhat true ... Happened over a month ago (September 12th during "Mike Cook's Bonneville Shootout"): This video footage of the 370 mph crash that George Poteet walked away from provides ample testimony to the extraordinary quality of car construction and crew preparation that comprise the Speed Demon operation. At Mike Cook's B-ville Shootout, everyone rolls as soon as the car p***es. Crew and professional emergency vehicles were on top of the crash in less than 15 seconds. Unless you see this first hand it is difficult to comprehend the fine line between record speeds and disaster. George places great confidence in these people and they all delivered. Yes, it is true. The Speed Demon site is http://speeddemon.us/ I think they have a video of it from the ****pit. Scary stuff.
BTW ... @RichFox posted about this on the H.A.M.B. just a few hours after the crash (see Speed Demon crashes).
