One of my old model A racer bodies had a LOT of Salt Flats time, and the rear wheels were almost completely rusted away when I got it 35 years ago. I was looking at it the other day and noticed from looking underneath that there had at one time been a roll bar mounted through the panel above the deck lid similar to the 1931 Morris Brothers/SO CAL race coupe found and restored by D. Tanimura (see post # 494 above). Now I am curious as to whether or not roll bars were actually used in the 1940's in dry lakes racing. I had always thought that they didn't appear on traditional racing roadsters until the 1950's. What does the historical record tell us on this???
Couple more...I wouldn't say they were common (haven't seen one on a strictly lakes/street car), but there were a few track roadsters that had 'em. Yam Oka, 1947; Bert Letner, 1948;
