So i wired the galaxie over the last few weekends with a EZ wiring kit, i checked everything today and most of its working, however i am having trouble with wiring the ignition switch - the kit is all GM color coded, but it looks easy enough, but no matter which way i wire it, it aint working right. This is what i have : 6 wires IGN Sw power IGN Sw start IGN SW ACC IGN SW coil IGN SW IGN the 6th wire comes off the RED IGN Sw start wire, i guess its a ground because its black The diagram says the IGN SW coil and IGN SW IGN go to the same post The problem i am having is i dont know which posts these wires are supposed to go on, i thought it looked pretty obvious, when i had everything wired as the diagram shows, the starter solenoid was trying to crank in the "on" position Which one is the battery post ? - the top one ? Does the purple wire "IGN Sw start" go to the center post like in the EZ diagram ? if so, something is ****ed up somewhere else Pics :
the problem is you have a Ford switch, and the diagram is for a universal switch....they ain't the same!
You can make it work, but you have to figure out which terminals do what. I don't see any markings on it like S A I B so you need to either use an ohm meter or test light, or find a wiring diagram, or maybe find the old harness and see what colors the wires were that were connected to it, and maybe we could figure out which was which. maybe I do have a diagram, I'll go look
i cant see any markings on the terminals... you could try different combinations to get the ignition to work, hook one thing up at a time or you will get confused. call EZ wire if all else fails. i had the same problem with my ign switch, didnt know what was what. also, make sure your ground is good. you will go ape **** over phantom problems if you have a faulty ground.
i would find a wiring diagram for what ever the switch is from. if it's for that car use the old wires in conjunction with the schematic to make it work.
dont think this will work.. he didnt know it was a ford switch, (im guessing the give away is the centraly located battery terminal). it is possible to trace wires to their sources ***uming the wires havent all been pulled out already. simple things to overlook when dis***embling a wiring system.
what the **** you talkin bout nikka ! I wired this mother every ****in way possible, and the grounds on the car are fine. I'll **** with it tomorrow, Mike the club "meeting" was fun, when you coming back to the land of drugs, gangs, pimps and hoes ? L
try here http://www.tocmp.com/tOCMP/wiring/5765wiring diagrams/fordindex.htm then back track or you can use a test light after find the battery terminal.
nice schematic, no different than what I posted....although it's a bit cyptic. Here, I turned the picture of your switch over to make it match the old wiring diagrams, and labeled the terminals on it....should be all you need to get it going, hopefully
as soon as you wire that muther****er up and pick me up haha... nah, kiddin... my parole officer said i have to stay put wish i could have been there, but i gots to make that paper....pour some maple syrup for the homies that couldnt be there. try squirrels wiring set up... perhaps you should take the engine out and remove the rear end? that might help you figure out the wiring.
Squirrel - soon i will be rewiring another car Just wanted to say thank you !!!!! . . . . . 8 years later L
