Finally got my dream car, but it's a ways from completion. Hoping to keep from wasting piles of cash with the help of this forum! Clark Hot Rods in Daytona will do my ch***is, I'll do the rest, with all the help I can get! Thanks in advance. First order of business is bracing the gl*** Vicky body and ideas of the best way to do it to prevent cracks around door hinges and floor mounting areas. I'll ***ume this could be a problem with these bodies?
The goodies... Clarke Hot Rods in Daytona ch***is 8" rear with coil overs and ladder bar suspension I beam front with leaf, 38 Ford spindles and disc brakes 350 small block Chevy with 3x2 intake, cl***ic finned valve covers 700R4 with corvette goodies Lokar shifter and peddles Painless wiring kit Original 32 bumpers and brackets Large stainless headlamps and dropped brace Gl*** fenders and running boards Torque thrust wheels in satin black with polished lip Tilt column Bucket seats Be Cool radiator fan and shroud Unknown radiator with condenser Reproduction 32 tail lights, handles Tempered smoked gl*** kit Door panel kit Rear drum brakes Added capacity fuel tank I need brake lines, calipers, rotors and master. Bracing for the body Fuel lines New tires(these are dry rotted) Dyna mat Stereo system I look forward to ideas from all the experienced builders and look forward to learning all I can to TRY and do most things only once.
I'm going to really do something different and rather then a $7000, 200hp engine I'll build this car with a $500, 335hp salvaged modern LSX power plant. Along with an overdrive transmission, coil overs and get it all done under $12,000. Doing most of the work myself, with the help of Clarke Hot Rods of course.
Thought about this frame, but Tim at Clarke Hot Rods ***ured me his would be perfectly true, jig built, with boxed rails and a 34 style crossmember.
Notched frame for spring clearance, just in case it's needed. But my intention is not a slammed car, just a low one.
Engine is all done, ready for offy 3x2 intake and finned tall valve covers. Once I figure out where to install a PCV in them.
Rear suspension takes only minutes, magic like TV land where cars are built in a couple days and nothing goes wrong. Ok, it took about 5 hours of measuring, remeasuring, triple measuring...
Front view the same day. It looks like the right side may have a steering linkage clearance issue where the brace is pre welded in?
Body temporarily installed for engine and steering box set up. Then ch***is gets sanded down and sprayed with decent paint, rather then the rust prevention cheap stuff on it now.
Last pic tonight, more recent motor pic. I have the carbs, dist., billet serpentine pulleys, mini chrome starter and alternator ready to go!
Two things I'm wondering is battery location and tire size. I'm using 15" 70's era Torque thrust wheels. I'm sure about the rears, 215/70-15, but the fronts have me torn between 185/65-15 and 165/80-15? Battery box from what I've read on the HAMB is best under seat or in trunk, but being a Vicky body complicates that. I'm thinking inside frame rail, someplace? Any input would be great!
I built a sand blaster to strip the wheels since they are painted black now, but I want them natural silver, with a polished lip and I'll clear coat them after to preserve the finishes. Also need to strip the old paint off the tank and clean it out with the kit I bought on eBay. Lots to do this weekend.
Welcome from Detroit. This is the area for introductions. If you want more people to see your Vicky you might want to start a build thread on the main board. Martyn Singlefingerspeedshop.com. Detroit
This weekends work, tank, master and plumbing started. Steering box installed and linkage. Next weekend, motor, trans, fuel lines...then body is up.
Ok, more progress, body mounted with floor plates I fabbed up to tie in the door hinge area and dash/column supports. I started the dash install and the column and it's supports is up next. I do notice an odd fit between dash and windshield area. Not sure what the gl*** body guys do about this fit. Improvise? Any input is welcomed. I'll post pics of the dash work this weekend. This weekend I installed the fenders, brake pedal and got the hood components lined up and ready to start body work. Pics this week. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Building the frame work for interior attachment points today. Got it all welded in and fibergl***ed to the main body. No squeaks or rattles, but plenty of good meat to get screws into for panels. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
This is before I realized the 1/2 square tubing was going to be a challenge to find. I added another 1/2" piece anywhere it looked like it would come in handy. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Also did a TON of block sanding today. Got everything flattened out, with only the fenders left for next weekend. Then 3 coats of high build primer and we block it all again, YAY! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yeah, I wanted to use a 3x2 intake, so SBC I had went in after a rebuild and some fresh aluminum angle plug heads. Things are *********** a little bit, my OCD won't let me cut too many corners, lol. But I'm trying to build it like I would have when I was a kid if I had the dough in the 60's-70's. After bodywork and prime I need to sort out the door gl***... Channels and weatherstripping for the doors. Time to search the forums for info. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Man, we need to get this thread moved out of the "intro" section and onto the main board. Wedjim - Have you never posted on a message board before!?!?
lol. I ***umed it would pop up in the right place eventually.... I know what happens when I ***ume now. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
