How can I get my powerflite transmission adjusted to the push ****ons on the dash. The cable itself has no adjustment on either end and neither does the push ****on mechanism in the dash. My gears are not where they should be according to the ****ons. Thanks.
From my 1957 Plymouth Workshop Manual......page 169......" Cable Adjustment-Without Removal.- Loosen the cable bracket screw(the cable bracket screw hole is elongated for adjustment) have someone hold the lo (L) speed push ****on in it full length of travel to remove backlash from the cable actuator. Carefully position the cable bracket in the cable bracket recess on the cable and tighten screw. Check operation of push ****ons to insure correct adjustment".......there is also a very small pic that shows what appears to be a bracket that curls forward and holds the cable with its holding bolt at the top of the bracket........this must be where there is the hole to offer some adjustment as mentioned in the text from the instructions.............I hope this helps.......I have a 3 speed Torqueflite and haven't played with the Powerflite.......lol...........regards, andyd
Ah, now I see. I never did see the elongated bolt hole in the bracket. So the cable actually slide in or out of the trans. housing for adjustment. Thanks for the info Andy.
Koob........thanks for the pic, it explains everything.....lol.........as I mentioned I have only ever played with the cast iron T/flite that's been in my 40 Dodge since 1973 but I have quite a few books etc, there was only a side on pic of that trans and the bracket wasn't very clear but your pic explains it all.......lol.......the T/flites used a circular plate on the gearbox end of the cable........btw that's a nice 56 Dodge........any more pics?...........regards from Sunny Sth Grafton Australia.........andyd.
