I don`t have too much info on it other than seller says it`s a 30 or 31 coupe.
I`m a musclecar guy so bear with me...
Says it has rust / rot on the underside. Doesn`t say what kinda engine. Were there any engine options for these cars anyway?
What would be a decent price for something like this...? me likey... :))

  2. It is definitely a '30 or '31. The radiator shell says it is a '31 but it could have easily been changed. If the speedometer is oval it is early '30, if it is round it is mid '30 through '31. If it has one piece splash aprons above the running boards and into the front fender it is probably a '31 but late '30 may have had them. If the firewall has a recess where the fuel line comes out it is a mid to late '31. How about pictures of these areas. If it has clean paperwork my guess would be it is worth about $3K. Take a model A guy with you to spot what is missing especially if you plan to restore it. Does it run (or at least turn over) and do the brakes work. Obviously missing is the front bumper and brackets, headlight lenses, hubcaps. There was only one engine available, 4 cylinder, 200 cubic inch, 40 hp.

You got that right, from what shows the grill shell indicates it's a 1931 Ford. HRP

  5. You beat me to it, Danny- those inserts on the grill are a feature for '31 :)

    thanks gents,
E-mailed the owner last night and I`ll call him today, hope to get some more info and maybe go see the car . He`s way up with the price, but also had a hard time believing my interest was serious.... there were some before me...lol
I guess there is room to negotiate... there has to be, or I`m better off flying over to the states and find me one there...

I know that changes things. But converted to usd , he`s asking 8300...
Not too many untouched A`s here. No ***le though ,so I`l have to check out what my options are. Don`t want to build a car only to find out I`m not able to get it registered.

I see bare bodies, no frame, fenders etc going consistently for $3000 on up. No ***le is a big problem sometimes regardless of cost.

  12. I'd buy everyone of them I could find like that at 3 Gs .
Line them up for me and I'll cut you a finders fee

Charlie Stephens gave you all the clues to decipher it's iden***y -- 30 vs.31. As for price, that sounds pretty steep to me, especially for a basket case with no ***le.

If the engine is in the car give us the number, located on the drivers side of the block. With the number you can tell year and month of manufacture. Looks like you will need to replace or repair the quarters. Look behind the rear wheels for rot, also lift the trunk and check the sub rails. Both of these areas tend to rust out. I have owned Model As since 1968 and in my opinion, just by what I can see by the pictures, $8300 is way too much to pay for this car. $3000 is more like it, but be prepared to replace most of the sub rails and floor.

  15. It's more like a $5000 car, of which around $1000 is the rolling ch***is and $1000 or so is the fenders. That body doesn't look too bad and they reproduce just about everything for one except the actual quarters.

I've sold lousier Model A's for more than $3000 with no ***le - anyone expecting one in that price range is about 10-15 years behind the times.

  16. agree with rustyn.y. I would say $3000 is cheap even with no ***le. The fact that he is overseas, will have alot to do with price, not just the conversern rate but the fact that they must be more rare over there.

  17. At 8300 that's crazy.
I realize its over seas and all but ,,,,

This is 12,500 or best offer.
You could be driving a finished hot rod much faster and probably cheaper after selling off parts.

    thanks all for your replies.
I spoke with the owner a few minutes on the phone this afternoon. He`ll call me back tonight since he had other things to take care off earlier. He says he picked it up a few yrs ago in NY state, and the previous owner stated it had been there like forever. It`s untouched, never welded and it has the (probably ) Original 4 banger in it. The engine turns over but the head is off the block and has a crack. Owner states it`s a 31. He will also throw in a flathead v8 if I`m willing to pay his asking price... the v8 is frozen...
He doesn`t know the condition of the frame, but most stuff under the belt line has rust damage and floors are gone.
If I buy it in the end, I`ll hotrod it allright ;-)). I don`t know about the states, but here an untouched coupe is pretty rare... and I like them untouched, but I don`t like ending up with a pile of collapsed Ford in a cloud of dust. I`m not familiar with these cars (moparman) and not with flatheads... Ì think I may be able to scoop it up for maybe 6k but would that difference justify leaving the seized up flathead behind?

My buddy had a 30 coupe here locally and couldn't sell it for $8,000 in untouched, almost no rust condition. Ended up keeping it and hopping up the banger.

  20. The car is untouched ? For now
It's not been welded on ? For now

The whole lower 8" will need to be redone and there goes any "extra value premium" you paid.

Untouched and not needing to be touched , well there's the value you speak of and that ship has sailed long ago for this car.

  21. Be sure to sit down and price out everything you will need to do/buy for the car to make it what you want. I bet you will find you would be better off buying a better (more expensive) car.

  22. Exactly !
The car in post 1 is asking 8300, the car in post 17 is asking 12,500 - 4200 difference. There's no way you could get the car in post 1 to similar condition as post 17 for 4200. It just aint gonna happen even if your labor is Free!

Buy one in the states and ship it. There are two coupes for sale locally in similar shape. One is $3400 and the other is $2800.

  24. How much just to get them from Seattle Washington to the east coast to ship to England/Europe? With a non-runner you can figure on doubling that price in no short order. That puts you at $6000 before shipping it over. How much more to ship it on over in a container? $2000? There's your $8300.

I am presuming a little, since OP says car came from New York, that it went to Europe and not Australia, still not sure exactly where he is.

FWIW, I had no trouble selling the little A pickup I cobbed together a few years ago to ..Sweden I think it went, for $3500 plus he bought another $500 in parts we had shipped to me and I packed them in a crate in the bed of the truck. It had a few hot rod goodies, but no fenders at all, needed cab corners, he bought subrail extensions for it, cowl needed patches, doors were weak, bed needed a ton of work too. I basically threw it together on a pile of parts, frame from a coupe someone 1-800-hot-rodded, axles (40-ish Ford with juice brakes) from a garage estate cleanout, an F1 steering and crossmember just tossed in, cab from an AA no one cared about, bed off a sedan someone made into a truck in the 40s. About the only thing I spent more money on was some U-bolts and spring shackles. No ***le, just a reciept.

Which, being a NY car this A won't have a ***le either.

It doesn't cost nearly that much to ship it...

My 30 av8 coupe left thru long beach. It was about 800 bucks from Seattle to long beach and 2500 from long beach to germany. That's a little under your scenario and probably worth the time involved setting up shipping and what not.

Though from Seattle to New York would certainly bring us into your ballpark.

Both of the Seattle area coupes are on craigslist. The $3400 one is pretty rough, I seen it in person.

Are you stuck on 30-31's? No way I would pay that much for that. Don't be anxious and buy something rusted out.

not really, I like em, but my son likes em better... There`s a nice 1930 2dr sedan Plymouth for sale here in NL for a bit more , and it actually has paint... lol
I guess I`ll go see them both. No hurry at all...
