Does any one know if I can just (Swap) the three speed with the 4? I have the bellhousing for the 4 speed. and the trans is the (Flange) type. Linkage is what I am most curious about. Any info is appreciated. Thaks..
What is the casting # off your bellhousing? I would get that and call Brewer's Performance; ask for Wayne or Dan. 937-698-4259. They've been awful helpful in the past. Good luck
Some of the early 3-spd boxes had bolt patterns unlike the A-833. This is fairly easy to check if you have the 4-spd on the bench...crawl under the car with a tape measure and check the bolt pattern. IIRC the front bearing retainer should be the same on the early A-833. If the bolt pattern is off then find a correct bell and double check it for the bearing retainer diameter. Don't expect the 3-spd linkage to fit/work on the A-833. .
Ya. I believe the 4 speed has 3 shifting forks not 2. I was trying to find out if the 4 speed linkage will fit without destroying the floor board. I am not going to bother if I have to destroy some part of a nice original car. I'll just leave er be.. Thanks.
"destroy' ? maybe not...all later 4-speed cars had a separate 'tunnel' piece that was welded to the floor pan. If you can find a photo of a 64 floor with the hump/tunnel then it may be that a later repop part could be used and not look obvious. You might ask the question at www.wildcatmopars.com or http://bigmauto.com/ Good guys at both places and very knowledgeable. http://www.classicindustries.com/shop/mopar/parts/?q=4 speed tunnel .
My car does have the factory 3 speed tunnel. It is a factory 3 on the floor. There is probably enough xtra room for the 4 speed and linkage. Thank you. Research Research.
