Customs A Mild '56 Merc

They look like stock 56 Mercury spinners to me! Good advice Jimmy. The use of restraint is a good tool, not used enough in today's exuberance for absurdity. A mild kustom is my favorite style of car. Very few "hot rodders" that I mention that term to have an idea of it's definition and never ask it's meaning. I wish some one would start a mild custom community group, but it wouild probably lay dormant as does my 40 ford group and Kustom Fleetliner group, both examples of historic hotrodding. That impeccable 56 Merc is beyond reproach and would leave my older brother "breathless".

 

Right! They are extremly hard to find, even poor examples. I had to settle for a NOS pair of plain 55 Merc caps. The problem is the rear axel snout on my 40 tries to poke a hole in the wheelcover!

 

That's a beautiful Merc. I really love the '55 and '56 Mercury's - they are great looking cars. I used to work with a guy that had a Black and white '56. That car was immaculate, original everything including the owner. I remember that the car looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor.

 

I've alaways liked the 55's and 56's, especially this one. I nicer guy you won't meet, either. Mr. White is solid gold............

 

Agreed, beautiful automobile right off the showroom floor. Thank goodness for the absence of spotlights. As I am an engine bay detail freak, I suggest the following:
Yes, the air cleaner is out of place for what the car is. Ditto for the heater valve. The Corvette master cylinder is a legit safety feature, but the same could be accomplished with a '67 Mustang cylinder, keeping it in the FoMoCo family. If it were mine, (and it is not) I would pull the 100K engine, scrub it surgically clean, new gaskets and seals, and detail it in factory colors - but leave the finned covers.
Overall, what has been done to this Merc has been tastefully done - I add my kudos!

 

I have a favorite spot that I've photographed friends cars ,motorcycles,and vehicles I'm selling.I call it my sweetspot.And I have an affinity for the mid 50s Mercs.Thanks for the pics.

 

Very tasteful, some cars just don't need much to be spectacular.

 

At first, I wondered, why would he leave the BIG M on the hood, then I realized
the car would take on a whole new look in the front if it was gone and decided it looks
better the way it is. I like it, beautiful car.

It seems to have two different tones of white on the firewall. Or is it just the lighting?

 

Although it looks simple , there was a lot of work that went into the car to get it to look so clean , simple and Kool . This is a study in less is more .
To bad on losing your photo spot . Texas is a big place you will have to plan a road trip, do some scouting , driving and eating bar-b-que to find another .

 

"Mid century", hands down the best ere for Factory styling IMO.
