Switching to high flow oil pump sbc

Hello all I'm switching to a high flow pump on a 69 sbc .
The old one has plastic coupler for the shaft to the distributor , I saw on YouTube videos to switch to e metal one so I bought this new one on the left

The question is does it lock on to the pump ? The old one is stuck on I didn't pull apart so I'm not sure how it supposed to be .

It just fits over from the top. It won't lock on

 

Both are press fit.

 

The plastic coupler is a light press fit (there's a ridge in the middle of it, that fits into a groove on both of the shafts). The metal one just slips on...although some are a light press fit.

The plastic ones work fine for me, the metal ones work ok too.

Someone has to be "that guy" and ask, why you're installing a big block oil pump?

 

Really ?? Lol is that a big block pump ? My father had the motor 30 years , then bought parts from a guy that had the same car ...the pump box said high flow , I didn't looks further into it . it fit nice ..the pan fit too ...thanks for the heads up !!

Would you use the old one it was lightly used from that motor ? Keep the plastic ?

Take the cover off of the original pump.
If the gears and cover look good with little wear I would use it.
Also make sure the byp*** valve will move and reseat itself

 

I would re use the old pump, if it looks ok inside. The plastic sleeves work ok,, although I would not reuse a used one. Make sure the metal coupler shaft is the correct length if you decide to use it. there are different ones.
