Some of you may have seen my project in an earlier post. This car's been in my family for about 20 years or so. The only history I know about it is that it was purchased in Saginaw. I rode in it a couple of times before my dad tore it down. He went at the chassis, installed four bars and coil overs, began molding the frame, and then moved on to other projects. I just got it last year after he passed away and I'm putting together the resources to get it back on the road. Most of the hard parts are there. The car seems to have been a hotrod for some time, considering the work on the channel. It's all solid, though. I have a 265 and 3x2 setup for the mill, unsure of the tranny. It has an 8 3/4 rear end, Mustang box. I'm thinking of a dark color, such as Washington Blue, black or even a deep Maroon. I'd like an Ox-blood interior. Hallock winshield Just thinking out loud. No, the wheels aren't part of the final vision. Possibly wires or Halibrand style rims. I like a low key, steath style. Check it out.
I am sorry for your loss,..... but excited for your project,.......... when a great thing like Hot Rodding can be passed down from Father to Son, that is really something ! Good luck on your project, if there is anything I might be able to help you with let me know, I live about 1 hour north of you.
Thanks, guys. It's weird that even though he's gone the HAMB offers a connection to all the knowledge and experience he had. No disrespect intended, but the greybeards on this forum remind me a lot of my Dad. Sounds cheesy, but shooting the bull on here and listening to the storys makes me feel like he's still around. And that, is why the HAMB rules. I have a couple of boys of my own that are in line for some of my father's and my hand me downs. Still have a '55 Chevy in the works (since I was 14) and a '65 Impala Super Sport.
Very cool! My folks live in Frankenmuth, and my brother lives by Midland. When we get our projects done, will have to meet up some where. Maybe the Hooters in Saginaw , they have cruises there I hear.
You are doing what dad would have liked, carry on the name and carry the flame for the passion he had for the hot rods...enjoy...............
Sounds good to me. Hooters in Bay City has them for sure. There's quite a bit going on around here when the weather breaks.
It's good to have another HAMBer in the area. FAB32 is just outside of Bay City. Hatch and Donzie are in Midland and I'm in Caro. We would love to see your project sometime.
You're referring to the panhard arrangment, I'm sure. I know it's unconventional but I'm going to try it. There's a bearing attached to a bracket welded to the axle. This bearing rides inside the vertical C-channel with roughly 1/8" or so clearance on either side. Once the grill is mounted it won't even be visible. The picture doesn't show it too well.
That front set up to replace the panhard will work flawlessly.....even more perfect geometry than the panhard will! I use the same set up at the rear axle sometimes.....Just make sure its C-channel solidly anchored.
Tace, Just to add my 2 cents. After PMing you the other day I've been busy and haven't gotten around to looking you up. As others have said there are quite a few HAMBers in the area. I'll be filling you in on the ones the avoid ( some really unsavory individuals for the most part) Frank
