Ok, I'm looking for someone who knows a thing or two about the T5 trans. I bought this one from VanPelt Sales a few years ago and it's a non world cl*** T5. I'm installing it in a 40 Ford puck up but disregard that because not much is left from the 40 other than the cab. So my issues are trying to connect the speedo and also knowing the correct orientation of the linkage on the output shaft. I have included several pics showing the left side of the trans. For the life of me I can NOT see where the speedo cable connects. Also, towards the rear of the tail shaft there is a plastic cup type cap that I pulled out and some oil came out but then stopped. Inside here I see nothing that would indicate a place for the speedo cabe to connect. And lastly, I included a pic of the output shaft and the arm that I will be using. To connect the slave cylinder push rod to. I guess my question is this: does the output shaft rotate clockwise or counter clockwise when activated by the slave? Thanks.
"Inside here I see nothing that would indicate a place for the speedo cabe to connect." Look in the hole and do you see a worm type gear on the shaft? That big hole is where the speedo driven gear and it's holder would fit, and that small hole next to it is for the bolt that holds a retainer to keep it together. Early trans is cable speedo, later was electronic. I am not up on these at all "And lastly, I included a pic of the output shaft and the arm that I will be using. To connect the slave cylinder push rod to. I guess my question is this: does the output shaft rotate clockwise or counter clockwise when activated by the slave?" I ***ume "output shaft" is the cross shaft for the TOB fork on the bell. If the shaft is below the centerline of the trans input shaft, then the cross shaft needs to turn counter clockwise to push the clutch "in". or in other terms, to disengage the clutch. In your pic, the shaft is below, like a stock 40 had.
Thanks for the response John and F&J. So I guess my question about the output shaft has been answered. The shaft turns "counter clockwise." Thanks! And on the speedo question, I will look better "inside" the rear most hole to see if I see any worm type gear. I have the speedo cable and it has a finished end connection on both ends of cable but maybe I am missing another connection or something? There could be something in the box that I missed? Ok I just looked "inside" the rear most hole in trans and I do see the "worm" gear. I think I must be missing another part for the end that goes inside there because my cable end has female threads and that hole is smooth ( see pic of my cable end). It's a Lokar cable so I will have to call them and see if I'm missing something.
This is what you're missing. Also the worm gear in the tail housing is color coded to determine the best ratio of speedo accuracy which is determined by rear diff gearing and over all tire diameter.
