I've been a Bay Area resident for 35 years, 20 were spent living in the city. City politcs is a never ending amusement cavalcade I've had experience with the permitting process and it has always been subject to politics and petty beaureucratic interference.( not to mention graft and corruption) The good thing about SF is no matter the issue you can usually find someone to take your side. This sounds like a job for the board of supervisors. Wasn't the creation of the Board spelled out in the original city charter for the purpose of oversite to prevent city gornment runing amok? I think the park is nuetral territory so you could get all the supes to weigh in. Ironic this considering the picnic benefit one of the parks programs. It might be possible that they got a better offer from someone else.
Sure, the mayor and his buddies can set up a ski jump in the middle of a street blocking traffic and disrupting the neighbors, BUT a car show in the Park? Nooooo! Naughty, naughty! Strange place this area. .
