We are having an engine assembly seminar tomorrow, Jan 21, from 10:00am until....... We'll order Pizza/wings/Mexican, whatever hits us at that time. Bring yourself and $5 for Lunch (If you want to order with the group). The victim is a 68 327 that's fresh from the machine shop. We will cover fitting and installing rings/pistons, bearings, heads, cam and intake. The customer wanted to learn how it's done so we decided to make an event out of it. If you've never put an engine together, come on down and watch. If you've built so many SBC's you can do it in your sleep, you are encouraged to join us. Lets show these guy's how to "Do it yourself". Experience needs to be passed on
Wow, that's a really cool thing. I wish I'd been able to watch when my engine was assembled. I'd like to be able to do it myself someday. Ironically, my engine is a '68 327.
That's very cool. I've built a few SBC, and feel I could probably do it in my sleep. But I would still like to go, because I'm sure I could learn more. Too far though, darn it.
hmmm... That sound cool. I'll see if the wife has any plans for me. If not I'll try to head down. Good excuse to drive the 57 around too!
Me,too. Any body know of an engine building school-like those ones where you make a chair or something? Maybe bring your own motor and rebuild it over a weekend or a week?
Yeah.. Actually have the WHOLE weekend off! Next one too. But none next month. Steve, Do you all do exhaust in that shop of yours?
I wish someone would do trhis in nj.Id like to assemble my foed 390 fe myself.I took ity all apart myself and now its going to the machine shop.Ive read enough about engines to do it in my sleep and re-installed the old cam and piston rings on the old pistons just for practice.Hey ya gotta start somewhere. mike
Ya gotta keep up son!! OCP came over with Kirstie. Kirstie helped Mike remount the block on the stand. Son....that girl has keeper written all over her. Before she left she knew how to set up a bore gage and use plastigage. Showed the owner how easy it should turn over. By hand at first and with "Mild application" of a breaker bar when fully assembled (The assembly lube is pretty thick and it's cold outside). The joker that was building his engine used a freakin' pipe wrench on the balancer partion of the crank and chewed it up to where thaey wouldn't take it back as a core. The short block is done and the heads will go on next week (After we get a new tap to chase the holes in the block). What kind of clinics would you locals like to have? Let's here it. There is a lot of talent in the area and I think we should tap into it. If you guys are interested, we will have a quick how to on Vinyl graphics next month when we prep Swamp Thing for it's debut.
