Pretty cool, I cant say Im crazy about the hood but it would be ashamed to ever change it and lose all that character.
Supposedly, there were 200 of those dealer-installed plexigl*** hoods provided by Ford to dealers so they could show off Ford's new OHV V-8. They are rare and sought-after. Cool find.
Damn, yep rare. See through hood for their new 239 inch ohv v8. Heard of them being concept cars......no clue so many were made.....not that 200 is so many....but better then 1, 2, or 3. Not a fan of the look, but sure would attract some attention. Hell a McCulloch supercharger could very well spruce it up a bit for me. Nice stance, period caps or wheels. Count me in......bidding is listed at starting at 10 dollars. I could have a real chance maybe!!
I believe that there was one provided for every Major Ford dealership. As posted earlier they were built to show off the new OHV V-8
Made back when people really cared about what was under the hood of the new car they were about to buy. This past spring I bought a new car for my wife and the salesman acted pissed that I wanted to take the time to look under the hood before I went inside to make the deal.
I remember way back there was a pawn shop on north Brodway called Kings that had a green gl*** roof car. Wonder if that is the same one.
Someone already shaved the hood and trunk, removed the grille bullet/spinner and put the Merc Monterey side trim below the side windows, this is a mild custom, wonder when it was built? Neat car, the hood is great.
Yep. I would dress the engine to kill in that beast and drive it like I stole it. Always park it under a light and never ever get mad about the attention it draws. neat little hooptie.
In the 60's I always used to think these models were too overdone with the excess of chrome additions that never really blended in with the design of the car as compared to Chevrolets well thought designs. Now They have grown on me and I really appreciate the style and look. That's a really nice find.
saw a 1950-ish Oldsmobile with one of those hoods at the Ironstone Concourse in Murphy's Ca. the other weekend.
I'm disappointed, not one comment about other stuff in the photo! All those hit @ miss engines? There I fixed the thread.
Saw one in Milwaukee WI & then I had a neighbor that had the Olds! But that was more than 45 years ago. I think there is an Olds with that hood in the movie "Deuce of Spades "...
Not to hijack, but what the heck are those wheels? Billet something-or-others? And to make at least one on-topic post for this thread: those cars are a perfect example that "rare" does not always mean "good." I hate the way that window in the hood breaks up the lines!
