Pretty much since I was in my late teens I have had an old Ford pickup as a sort of daily driver or "worktruck". Something that could sit outside and you could drive in any conditions. I LOVE the "ugly" 1942-1947 Ford pickups. My first flathead V8 I owned that ran and drove was a 1946 pickup. I've owned mostly jailbar and F-1 pickups. But for one reason or another (always money) they go down the road and I get another one eventually.
I bought a 1929 RPU a few eeks ago mainly for some V8 parts that came with it. It was fairly cheap and I figured witha combonation of stuff I had availabe I could make it a roller and sell it off. My friend Chris @Lytles Garage and who lives in Wenatchee liked it and we worked a deal on this 1944 Ford pickup he had got running and driving. It is a V8/3speed and runs like a watch. So the RPU and a little cash went to Chris, and I got a new work truck! I swapped the smaller 6.00 whitewalls for some 6.50 blackwalls. It needs a little tinkering, some gl***/seals and such, but sure is a nice driving old war truck.
Part of me wants to put a dropped axle under it and do a little spring work, but part of me wants to add a few era correct ***essories and just use it. Maybe I'm getting old??

Mmmboy, that '29 has some nice sheet metal... but every cowpoke I ever knew bragged about his .44!

That ol' truck is a jewel, Chris...especially with the new blackwalls.
If you roll a Dago axle under it, just be conservative. 3" drop would be tasty, maybe reverse the eyes in the rear...Not too low, just define those pretty fenders. Not many real '44 Fords out there...

My first ol Ford that ran was a 46 pickup. I sent an axle to Mordrop and got ti done 3". I took a couple leaves out of each corner (it rode pretty rough after that) but it lowered it pretty well. Not really slammed, but looked good for such a beat up ol truck!!

Like Forrest Gump's mother said..."Ugly is as ugly does"...whatever the hell that means. I love it and have always wanted one as well. The close-set headlights and round park lights look cool as hell to me.

Very cool find! Have to agree with comments above...beginning to like the jailbar years. The gray one is too cool.

The universe is only in balance when @Chris has a jailbar pickup.

Cool, I saw it on the trailer at Monitor but the only photo I got was when it photobombed another rig. You can see it peeking over the top of the convertiable sedan while sitting on the trailer.

The jailbar truck, shouldent be called ugly! If it is anything its humble, simple and dependable!!

All the things you want in a work truck.

And it wouldent hurt the look of the truck, as long as you still can use it as a truck!!
Thats what it needs to be!

Great truck Chris, I knew I should have tried to get it before you nabbed it up but shipping it here was just to much. The whitewalls are gonna look right at home on my 41! Thanks again.

Nice truck, looks ready to use. I would be tempted to drop it a little as well. nothing serious just to give it a little at***ude.

  30. Nice truck.I would just keep it that way and drive her! Bruce.
